Why does Battle.net log me out every time I switch VPN?

Why does switching my VPN on or off instantly log me out of the client and force me to re-enter my password? What kind of medieval security measure is this?

And of course — I can’t save my password. Guess how much fun it is to type a long, complex password every single time? Zero. Absolutely zero.

I get it, security is important. But maybe chill a bit? Other platforms don’t throw a tantrum every time my IP changes. Steam, Epic, even Ubisoft — they handle this like grown-ups. But here? It’s a mess for no reason.

Please, just give us a proper “Remember Me” option or make the session handling smarter. It’s 2025, not 2005.

Well, Blizzard does not support VPNs. If you are facing problems when using one then it’s up to you to deal with it yourself…

I gonna ssume you aren’t a troll and are just confuised how the internet works. The VPN is telling blizzard you are somewhere, when you switch from that VPN it then sees you somewhere else. Meaning you logged in from a new location, which is always going to log you out in the first location. It’s no different from firing up 2 PCs and then logging into WoW in one and then being surprised that when you log into WoW on the second PC you are logged out of the first one. Stop using VPNs on games.

First of all, I use my computer — and VPN — for more than just games. Ask your parents what else a PC and VPN might be useful for. Second, believe it or not, cookies and other session mechanisms exist that can let Blizzard know it’s still me, even if my IP changes — just like every other platform manages to do.

Anyway, thanks for yet another completely useless reply. Hopefully, it’ll be the last one.

The trolls on this post are ridiculous. It’s a legitimate gripe. Having to reauthenticate the battle.net client every time there is a network change is absurd.

Finally, a voice of reason! By the way, a new joke: now I have to agree to accept cookies every time, in addition to entering my password. Why do you need my cookies if you lose them every time I change my IP? An indie studio on its last legs…
