Why no OFFLINE play in Warcraft Remastered and Warcraft 2 Remastered?

I just purchased Warcraft Remastered and Warcraft 2 Remastered.

30 year anniversary!

I bought both the original games within days of their release. I bought the original Warcraft on 3.5" floppies for my Micron P90 after playing a demo from PC Gamer.

I can launch both Remastered versions using the blue ‘Play’ button within the battle.net app. No problems. Both work flawlessly (or at least as much of them as I have experienced).

However, when I go to launch the games from the battle.net created desktop shortcuts, the splash screens display for a couple of seconds then the Blizzard logo video then an in-game error screen with the following message:

“Lost connection to battle.net. Please login to battle.net and restart the client.”

I am still logged into battle.net. Nothing has changed since I launched the games using the blue ‘Play’ button within the battle.net app.

I launched battle.net in OFFLINE mode and received the same error message in the just described sequence for BOTH games.

Meanwhile, I have no problems playing Warcraft 3 Reforged (or Diablo 2 Resurrected or Starcraft) in OFFLINE mode.

I created a trouble ticket (US102192948), but the “Game Masters” were less than helpful. The Game Masters directed me here.

This is not really a request for technical help, but a question to Blizzard:

Why no OFFLINE play for Warcraft Remastered and Warcraft 2 Remastered?

Intentional? (grrrrrrrr)

Or an oversight?

If an oversight, when will the games be “fixed”?

Thank you.

Dave (long time Blizzard fan who is becoming less so with each passing Blizzard release)

I have the same issue. Can anyone fix this?

No offline play at all? Thank God I found this and THANKYOU for mentioning it. We are going through a move and won’t have internet for a week or 2 so I’m trying to find something good offline to play… Super sad that this isn’t even launchable offline… They did a VERY clear better job with their older versiona fyi bc you can actually PLAY OFFLINE. During power-outs and anything related you can play these old versions for life and they’re amazing… It’s a shame they didn’t think to incorporate that kind of legacy into the newer remastered versions. They won’t be remembered… But the OG’s will.
