Hi, guys! Im play in D2 for the first time. Don’t judge strictly. Reach Hell and go to the pit. In any guide and description this location have a 85 level, nice drops and golden chest. But i have pretty crap drops appropriate more normal difficulty and have usual purple chest which is not displayed on map. What im do wrong?
You’re not doing something wrong. But your mindset is probably not working here. This is not a problem and pretty common among new players that might have entered hell or start farming in a density area.
I think your mindset here might something like:
The pit is a well known and popular farm spot, area lvl85 and the best items can drop there. I farmed it 5 times, why do I still dont have a strong, valuable drop.
This mindset must be discarded
So how to approach instead?
At first, if you are fresh into hell, you’ll probably are around level 70 ± a few, so the best and most deterministic value pit farming might have for you is xp. Monster lvl 85-88 means you’ll get a lot of xp each run and you can easily farm here into the mid 80s.
Second, rethink what is a valuable drop. This does not only include elite uniques and high runes. There are lots of things to pay attention to, which are f.e. (the list is certainly not exclusive)
- rare and magic rings, amulets, circles, gloves with good mods
- small and grand charms with good mods
- white, ethereal or socketed valueable bases like archon plate, mage plate, phaseblade, berserker axe or (giant) thresher
- mid-high runes (I personally consider Fal or above a valuable drop)
- at least interesting elite and exceptional uniques and sets. This doesnt mean those have to be of high trade value, which would be a tough constraint, but it is fine if those are playable for either yourself or potential new builds you might want to play after or try out. There are a lot of things, that are useful throughout a playthrough/leveling phase.
- Frequency. D2R is a grind and farm game, so dont expect something good pop out every run. I did do a lot of pit runs with my druid and my necro and from my observation you will get something interesting every 8-10 runs in median. sometimes more, sometimes less. It’s pretty important, if you want to get solid drops, to dont get disappointed by a couple of bad luck runs. those happen. The opposite is happening as well. Rare and valuable items are valuable because they are hard to get, which is fine as it is. But its certainly possible to get a nice gear and stash in a reasonable time, if you persist on that.
Last thing, pit is fun. I chose it f.e. mostly as my main farmspot on those chars, because the pit has quite a nice density of bosses, most mobs are easily cleared and its pretty satisfying to blow those things up. The second level even more so, which is just a big room where you can AoE the crap out of things. And has the reward chest in. Don’t overvalue this chest, though, it can drop nice things, but it rarely does so. It’s still nice to pop it open
So if you dont enjoy doing the runs themselves, it might not be the right farm spot for you.
One more thing, the way from WP to the pit, even if it is not area level 85, still might have a lot of things, like boss groups or dense kobold camps or stuff like that. Kill everything that might be worth it on the way, even if the tamo groups can’t drop a griffons, they still can drop a lot of cool and valuable things.
Good luck and have nice drops!
Thx, bro! Im exactly 75 lvl. And i love farm)) Now i try farming harder))
Higher difficulties in this game doesn’t mean that theres only higher level things dropping. It’s just that the loot table gets expanded.
You still gonna see plenty of low level sets for the most part.
I dont touch pit as the mobs are more agressive to my orb sorc. you might have to do 100 or so runs to get a really nice item, then again you might get something sooner, its just random
heres a guy that did 500 andarial runs, this is the best place to get a jordan

Yeah Orb Sorc isnt very well suited to Pit. Pit is usually a good farm spot if your main damage source is either physical, poison or magical damage.
If you need 100 in median to get something worthy for yourself, your probably have a high floor what is valuable for you. Which is fine as well.
