Hi, I’m new to D2 and running a hammerdin and currently leveling through act 2 hell, lvl 77.
Had no problems of the kind whatsoever so far, but in the Lost City I ran across some mobs with magic immunity.
After numerous deaths of my a2 merc (and of myself too) I sort of managed to start killing them off with his assistance by keeping my concentration aura up, feeding him potions and keeping an open portal nearby. Does not really work with larger packs though.
But there are also uniques - ran into Dark Elder and Grief Burn the Quick - that are immune to BOTH physical and magic. Merc is of no use, as well as my Blessed Hammers are.
So as it seems to me now there’s something broken about those mobs as they seem to be immune to all sorts of damage.
I started googling around and read info (dating back to D2 though) that a Hammerdin’s hammers should to be able to break through the magical immunity in particular on undead. That is not the case for me. My BH hits for 5.2-5.3k currently at lvl77 yet I was literally dealing zero damage to both the uniques and regular monsters with magic immunity.
I’m still leveling the Blessed Aim for BH synergy, so I don’t have any points to spare into Conviction aura. And I’m not entirely sure that is a good build decision. I don’t have any enemy defence/resistance reduction on my gear as well.
Am I doing something wrong or there being monsters immune to all kinds of damage indicate a bug of some sorts?
Short answer is that all spec’s will run into monsters they can’t kill on hell difficulty ( be happy you ain’t a fire spell user )
Your options are ( if you are playing offline ) to run past the mobs or reset the map ( quit the current game / lower difficulty / go back to hell and you map is reset )
as a hammerdin you will not face many mobs you can’t kill compared to other classes / specc’s but be prepared that you will need to skip some mobs due to immunities from time to time.

not all specs run into this problem.
Lightning specs have the luxury that lightning immunes can be broken with infinity, which makes every mob killable. Griffons on top of it, makes them kill even those broken mobs quickly (except trap assa)
Bowazon has also the luxury that there is no monster that she cannot kill depending how you skill. (phys / magic / frost)
Necro has also the advantage that it has quad element (magic, phys., fire, poison) and you basically have always 3 elements available no matter what type of nec you play (although getting a first kill against certain type can be worse as summon contrary to poison)
then of course their are the infamous hybrid builds.
Generally magic immunes are already quite rare but if they are paired with phys immune, doesn’t make them immune against everything. They are still vulnerable to frost, fire, poison, lightning.
Magic in itself is more or less another element. Not 100% sure if magic immune makes their natural resistance against all other elements also a little higher or not, but certainly not immune.
Kinda missleading
