Alternatives to "Diablo" games

We like this kind of games, that’s clear. But what we have available? As Diablo 2R is seems that have no end-game(no really a reason to play after finishng Hell), Diablo 3 ok, much better than D2 but is already ~10 years burned, Diablo 4 will come in few years and what to expect at release - tons of bugs and not available servers…

There are few alternatives out there, first that come into my mind is Warhammer Chaosbane, much much better than D2, there is a real feel of progression, very good tiemization, skill tree(a real one not 2-3 synergies as D2), a very good end-game - there is a tower what you can play with 10 levels difficulties and 100 floors, each floor adding difficulty, at each floor you can choose to go upper or to open a super chest which bring real good loot. Warhammer Chaosbane is by far the most underestimated aRPG out there, available on Steam.
Another alternatives can not recommend, like Grim Dawn, POE(maybe expecting POE 2 in this case), LostArk releasing soon(not sure about this one also).

Are there others?

Youve counted many other arpgs that are in your opinion better than d2, then why ffs are u still here spamming the d2r forums?

Just leave, stop trolling.

Why are you comparing 20 years old Diablo to the games from 2021? It’s silly you know?

And if you don’t like it why are you still here? Just go play something else.

Last Epoch looks nice but its still EA so i haven’t tried it yet.

I’ve played them all to death. PoE and Grim Dawn are both excellent and have fantastic end-games worth progressing for. D3 is pretty crappy in comparison. But my recommendation is Last Epoch. That game has:

  • 15 classes to chose from
  • Every character has a giant passive tree, specific to class (comparable to PoE’s giant passive grid)
  • Each character must also pick 6 of the class-specific skills, from a choice of about 15
  • Each and every skill available has its very own skill tree where 20 points can be spent to fully customise both how that skill works and how it interacts with other skills.
  • Incredible build depth and variety. Two players could build a Fire mage and they’d play completely differently. Heck, 2 players could pick the same 6 skills for their Fire Mage and they’d still play completely differently.
  • Absolutely fantastic loot and wonderful crafting (best crafting I’ve seen in any ARPG).
  • Multiple end-games that are all scalable and very satisfying.
  • An excellent campaign that is actually worth playing through multiple times.

The only thing LE lacks is co-op, but that is being added very soon.

To put it all into context, I’d rate the ARPGs that I’ve played at least a few hundred hours of as follows:

Last Epoch: 10/10 (when co-op comes, 9 till then)
Grim Dawn: 9/10
PoE: 8/10
Torchlight 2: 8/10
Wolcen: 7/10
Warhammer Martyr: 6/10
Diablo 3: 6/10
Diablo 2R: 6/10
Titan Quest: 5/10
Torchlight 3: 4/10

Can we already ban this troll- danutz?

Yep, loving Last Epoch too. With coop added it looks promising.
Tried Lost Ark too, but you have to really get used to openworld Arpg! :slightly_smiling_face:

Looks promising, but I will wait that multiplayer to be added.

I’ve played in dozens different games of a similar genre, but I always came back to Diablo. The best alternative to Diablo is Borderlands 2.

In terms of the design of locations and characters, of music, darkness and at the same time fun, Diablo 2 has no alternatives.

And also Diablo 2 has the funniest sound of bursting frozen enemies ever))

The darkness I’ll give you, but absolutely not on the other counts. The environments and lighting in Wolcen are absolutely stunning. No other current gen ARPG comes close to that.

These are “dressup barbie” games and in D3 you can dressup your barbie in less than a week from season start, after which point there is only grinding for paragon levels and gem levels/augments. In D2 you can spend months dressing up your barbie.

D2 doesn’t have any endgame progression beyond gearing, but still provides a bit more replayability than D3, which is really just grinding greater rifts and repeating the same thing endlessly, only with GR’s making the rest of the game entirely obsolete. So you spend a week gearing in D3 until you start hitting a brick wall with GR progression and then you’re just sitting on the treadmill inching forward over time making no meaningful progress.

That’s why people only play D3 for a week. I do the season journey every time and finish about 2-3 days after season launch, then I do some GR’s until I get bored and quit like 99% of the players do within 1-2 weeks of the season. Most of my friends play it for 1-2 days and get as high as they can and then quit, they are usually running the endgame build within that 2 days.

D3 is still fun but it’s shallow, D2 has a lot more depth despite no “endgame” beyond farming.

Yeah, of course. I’m deleted this Wolcen after 1 hour playing)

Then you know nothing of the game then.

probably you are a big noob of D3. which is your max greter rift level you did? it shall be 140+ if found all items in ond week. no, you do not find items so quick, I played non-season for years now and not have all BIS items.
At leadt D3 has and dnd-game, D2 dies not.

We need Diablo 2R with end-game content. That’s clear.

What are you talking about 140+ in one week? You can get all items for a build in like 2 days, you’re a noob if you don’t realise that D3 is purely about levelling gems to augment and farming Paragon. I think my highest last season was 125, played for about a week on my Barbarian. I’ve also ranked on the final leaderboard in a bunch of seasons, you can see my name on there it’s the same as this.

People play D3 for like a week, many of them Solo and a few tryhards at the top of the leaderboard spend months farming in groups to get their paragon up so they can do solo GR. D3 is purely about Paragon level, if you don’t know that you don’t know shit about D3.

I recommend Grim Dawn, Last Epoch but it’s EA, Wolcen is nice. A bit different, but also with loot collection I had a lot of fun playing Outriders and CP2077 when you have a strong PC the game looks amazing and in my opinion it is the best RPG game I have ever played.

hm, first time hearing a Diablo fan reccomend CyberPunk 2077. is that good in terms of RPG?

CP2077 is the best RPG I’ve ever played, second place for me is Baldurs Gate. The plot, the dialogues and the whole story are great. This is an element of the game that is usually in the background for me or I omit it. because in most games it is banana and weak. CP2077 is like a 21st century book, the plot is simply done in a masterly fashion. If someone likes to read fantasy or SF books, he will surely find his place there.

Divinity Original Sin, change my mind xP
