Almost level 89. 3rd in our group to die from crashing on the cow level in the last week. Game froze, rebooted and logged back in to find my character dead. I lost hours and hours worth of gear and grinding there - could start over but for it to happen again? no thanks. It’s borderline unplayable due to crashing and if you’re playing HC exclusively like myself then just forget it.
Blizzard should fix it so that a disconnection triggers immediate “save and exit game”. Disconnection means loss of heartbeat in at least 2 different levels, one being the top. If Blizzard even know what a heartbeat is.
Until then, it is madness playing HC online.
I didn’t even see a death screen. Game literally froze up and crashed. Nearest mobs were a full screen away. Rebooted the game and logged in to find i’m dead. Super triggering.
Nothing wrong with learning the hard way what most players intuitively understand about playing hardcore on a freshly released game that’s bound to be buggy as hell. You knew the risks, yet decided to go against all odds for your personal thrills.
Dying whilst playing the game is one thing. Logging in after a crash to find you’re dead is another. Two completely different things.
Right, However I find that mind boggling that people would play in hardcore when it’s known that there are bugs and crashes that are out of control from the players hand. And this is coming from a player that’s played 10 seasons of hardcore Diablo 3 but only after late after major bugs were fixed.
Mind boggling indeed… this coming from the guy that two days ago said:
If the devs deemed HC as non-viable it would have been removed at launch the same as the ladder. There are people out there that only play HC exclusively. Despite what you’re saying, you are not one of them.
Dam right I am not one of them. As I said before it would be mind boggling for me to reason to play HC in its current state. Blizzard needs to fix the random crashes and freezing bugs before I even venture into HC.
How dare you assume my gender! j/k
You would think that a company like Blizzard would hire programmers competent enough to put some decent error handling loops into their code to overcome these kinds of problems, instead of leaving your character ingame and sending you to the desktop or forcing you to reboot. I know games are complex, but I can write a couple of lines in python for my own programs which handle any conceivable error without bricking it up
Welcome to the club.
Now relax and go play HC on single player char. Thats what I decided to do after loosing my char same way that happened to you.
Let me answer to all players who replied here like “you started HC when you knew the game is fresh and crashes are expected” - THIS IS NOT TRUE! Majority of players who started HC now - played HC in original Diablo 2 on battle.net for ages. And as experienced original D2 HC player I can confirm to you that in case of disconnect or game crash - HC char instantly leaves the game and I never lost my HC char due to disconnect or crash in original D2. And in D2R Blizzard broke this. Now your char remains in game even if you disconnect or crash, which makes HC impossible to play.
That’ total BS Myself lost several chars to disconnects aka “Black Wall”. Only thing we can hope for, that the new servers are better than the old ones and disconnects are rare, when they have fixed the current crashes.
i had crashes too, but then i read somewhere that increasing virtual memory in your windows system config should help. ince then i had no crash (but that means nothing as we dont know the reason for crashing).
I have 32gb RAM and had 4gb VRAM, which i increased to 8000mb - 16000mb in settings. Windows settings - System/Info - Extended options - Performance - performance - Virtual memory (or something like that, written from my brain). Search internet search machine could help.
I also dont remember losing chars in original d2 to crashes or dcs and i have a fair amount of experience on HC. I remember playing D3 and dying to dc and saying “screw this im goin back to D2.” Luckily i decided to play softcore on resurrected, and have had a few deaths to game crashes, until i go a long time without a crash or i can crash in combat with out dying i wont be playing HC again, very sad.
Lost many many Chars back then to DC or Crash. Most common was the “Black Wall of Death”.
I just lost my lvl 88 Sor, no lag no bug but crashed out by server, when I got back, died… They need to fix it up before selling the game. what a shame.
