am i missing something? im folowing those so called “modern d2 player guides” and i cant even upgrade a level 28 armor to its upd version

This formula changes the base item type from the normal to exceptional version. For example Quilted Armor is turned into Ghost Armor. This does NOT convert the item to the Exceptional Unique version of the Unique Item. So you cannot for example use this formula to transform [Greyform] into [The Spirit Shroud]. Unique item bonuses remain the same; only the item it’s based on is upgraded. This can be used to upgrade Ethereal Items also. They will continue to be Ethereal after they are upgraded. Also if the item is socketed, then jewels or runes and their mods will also remain. Armor refers to any sort of armor, including helms, boots, belts, gloves and shields, not just body armor.
That’s what Arreat Summit says. Do you have the cube in your inventory or the stash? I’ve heard it’s bugged if you try recipes in the stash.

you can only do this with rare and unique items. not base or set or ethereal items
im alreayd aware of this. but thanks for reminding that i knew it. i wouldnt be posting if it wasnt the case.

Theres your problem. String of ears is exeptional. You need Ko, Lem and p diamond to upgrade it

tho i thought it was ladder only… then my dead beat of a brain turned on and remembered that d2r has every features of ladder in non ladder
