After some farming in the very beginning of A1 Hell, I have found following armor:

I think it is quite nice stuff to start with for my merc. I have read somewhere that I can remove stuff from sockets somehow, right? What would be suggestion to fill sockets with?

Hel rune+portal scroll+socketed item=empty all sockets.
Beware: this also removes any runeword (good to use on cheap runewords in rare gear though)
I’d fill it with attack speed jewels.
There are way better options for merc gear though. Read up on some runewords.
You could put 3 perfect topazes, or some cool jewels (I’m sure, you have something you want use there). Feel free to experiment.
So this means I can put rune words on unique armors?
No runewords on unique armour, only white.
I think it’s a great starter armour for hell for your merc, but consider you will likely upgrade within 30 hours played time.
Socket with whatever you have on hand. Upgrades and hel recipe allow you to so.
No. You can make runewords in grey items only. They wouldn’t work in blue/yellow/brown items.
I have checked what people say on internet and 8 out of 10 advice using perfect ruby (or 3 of them) for life. What do you think?
Life is fine, just don’t plan on keeping this armor for too long. Plenty of upgrades possible
There is no “best option”. You should try what YOU want. Personally I think life bonus from ruby is too low for mercenary in hell. I prefer MF/resist/damage or even defence bonus in such case. Anyway, it is not a big waste, if you made a mistake here. I can give you free hel rune, if you need
