Blue items pick up or not

Hi Guys, getting into D2R bigtime now, playing with players/8 and cant stop picking up blue items thinking they will be cool/relevant to char/worth something etc but most (without Cains free identfiy) aren’t really worth the hassle of town portal now they are returning 3-500 gold per item (sometimes a lot less) so I think why not it will boost my stash, just curious if the veterans here have some kind of filter they use where they say yay or nay on an item (obviously yellow/green will always be identified) but what about Blues
thanks

White and grey items have the possibility to act as runeword hull, yellow items are usually used for playthroughs and golden/green items are for proper builds.

Blue items are mostly worthless, except rings and amulets for playthroughs.

At some point you will pick up select blue items that may fulfill specific needs. Those are normally elite pally shields, monarchs, circlets/tiaras/coronets/diadems, and amulets. On shields you’ll be looking for jeweller’s … of deflection, the others have more options to be of worth. Assassin claws with ias and trap skills + good staffmods, skill gloves with ias, or 3 warcries javelins are also of use, but they are shappable.

I pick up every blue ring/amulet I see because they can be really good. Though they may seem bad, finding a +2-3 skills boosting amulet is a really good find.

If you just pickup to earn money, then learn what items are worth much. Staves/wands/scepters with skills are typically worth a ton for instance…

But if you’re just coping with the gear you find yourself, blues might be best for many slots at many occations, just because rares/uniques/set items are much more rare, and thus you might not have seen any with the modifications you want.

Pick up everything but the yellow snow.

This. You will find what items are good to identify by the middle of act 1.
People are so lazy now, need guides for everything… :frowning:

Still, imo shoppable magic (blue) items are not worth collecting. Gambling for them is much easier and faster. Edge (TirTalAmn bow) reduces vendor prices dramatically, as do some act quests. Moreover, you’ll generally get higher level items from gambling, i.e. with better mods. Then they’ll also be good for crafting. Generating gold is easiest via white items with staffmods (built in skills). You can see how many there are on the spot, no ident needed, and only keep and sell those with more/higher skills. Wands are best since they’re also quite compact.

Edit: if you’re lacking an adequate item on some spot, I think there are much better chances to fill it in gambling for a base and crafting it than picking random magic items. At the end of the day, both should work, of course, but the first option seems way more controlled

You also need blue items for crafting, but at a later stage of the game.
I usually stop picking up blues by the end of Act I, save for jewelry (incl. charms and jewels) as have already been said.

Everytime I want to ressurect my mercenary I pick up 2-3 white items. There is no place for 4th one.

Every item has a potential chance to be useful.

For example Blue(Magic) items have the ability to get +3 to specific skill categories while yellow(Rare) items can only get +2. Yellow items are able to hold more magic properties than blue items but blue items can have more powerful ones. For a famous example:

Gauntlets: Blue Gauntlets can hold +3 to spear skills for the amazon while yellow ones can only hold +2.

Blue can be at best: +3 to spears, +20IAS, +x to strength

Yellow can be at best: +2 to spears, +20IAS, +x to strength, dex, vitality, (i think +allres, not 100% sure)

both can be good but what one wants is also preference, yet both are pricy.

Just google JMod. A blue Monarch which may seem trash, yet being one of the most expensive items ingame.

Whether or not an item is expensive is not based on it’s color but on it’s stats and the by the stats associated usages.

Hope this helps abit.

blue items worth mentioning +3 ammy skills, +6java/40 ias elite javelins(those are super rare and super expensive, only found 3 pairs in 20 years), JMOD (jewelers monarch of deflection 4os again super rare and very expensive), ocasionally blue gloves with java/bow/ma and ias on them, Jewelers of the whale armors 4os and 80+life those are sometimes useful, +3traps+3 light sentry are again highly sought after claws, these are the major blues to look out for

You can get blue items which we used to call godly. My bro found blue armour once and it was a hard one to trade because you couldn’t get enough value in the available trade slots.

If you need money, pick up blue armors. They’re quite valuable. Also any class-specific item. (mostly Necro- and Sorcerer staffs), Even the white ones, but only if they have high-level +skills on them.

You should also look at grey items. If they’re ethereal throw them away. If they’re socketed, consider, if you can use it for a runeword, (a cap is a waste, imho. But anything higher might still work to some degree.) or to push your stats. (like chipped gems in a 2 or 3-socket-armor in act 1, normal. You easily can push strength and dex. DON’T use runes, if you don’t have more than 3 of a kind. They’re quite valuable for runewords.

Safe every jewel, you find. You might need them to craft things, later. (as soon as you have perfect gems.) You need always a jewel of any quality for this. But don’t use jewels with -15 to requirements. You can use them instead of the HEL-Rune, later. (if I remember correctly, the HEL has the -15 to requirements.)

You can also equip your mercenary. A blue bow at the beginning (hunter- or long bow. If you’re luckky, even a composite one in act 1, normal.) And the leathers you find, can also equip your mercenary. If you find something better, throw the old thing away.

Don’t hasitate, to socket a bow with gems, if you have the opportunity. (at a blue one, regardless of the arrow it fires. Blue do cold damage, which slows enemies. The skill will only done now and then… But a gem always does the cold damage.)

Ehterreal items can also be used at your merc. The items equiped by your merc, don’t loose durability.

Blue rings and amulets can have the highest stats. But only one or 2. And they’re quite valuable at the beginning (over 1000, normally.) and take only one space of your inventory. If you’re playing a sorceress, (or other caster-class, like a bone-necro) “10% faster cast rate” may be your favorite. This might also come with “+xx to mana”, later.
