D2 classic (with expension too sure) has been my favorite game ever. I have played D1 too and loved D2 even more and the expansion even more!
However… That was around 2000 and D2 was one of the first real multiplayer online games. There were some bugs that allowed people to duplicate items (dupe) and that crashed the economy. Blizzard did some good effords to fix things like giving every item a unique ID, so if it got duped, they can delete it. But that did not work. I found some good item fairly in the game, traded it, my traded item was apperantly duped and my item got deleted. D2 was no longer playable…
Now 20 years later it got revived. The slightly better graphics and QOL updates are just fine, but the real reason I bought D2R was: Now in 2021 the game can relauch without online world being infected by duped/hacked items!
Sadly… Day of lauch. Blizzard does not seem to have any control over the online world. Games crashes. Accounts get rerolled. People can’t log in… It is a big mess. Blizzard does not communicate and does not have things in control… I am affraid D2R is just a bag of air and not the new safe online reboot of the game I had hoped for… Probably there are already 1.000.000 duped SOJ’s in the game by now.
