D2R is ClickerHeroes compared to D3

Maybe a bit exagerated but that it is. For those who don’t know ClikerHeors, is a game that you just need to click a box and numbers pop-up, need to just click all day long. This is D2 when compared to other rpgs, even D3.

D2 lack of build ! serious, Blizzard Sorceres? come on man, 2 buttons press from time to time… I saw a lot of complains that D3 has not skill three and D2 has :))) what skill three do you see in Blizzard Sorceres? Or even all other classes, just put points in 4-5 obsiuss skills, pathetic.

for example: D3 Inna Pet monk, play it reccently:

  • need a big sinergy between items/skills to work
  • using 4 skills on battle and need to know how to use them in colaboration with items properties: hit with generator with spirit on mob hit to keep up spirit, Cyclone Strike to get mob closer and activate bracers bonus and shouders bonus, on Ally cooldown hit with other generator to get damage bonus for each mob hit and check if double attack speed activated from Flying Dragon and if also Shenlong bonus is up then deploy Ally explosion. Not to mention checking Convention of Elements rotation to deploy Ally on Fire rotation.

now, D2 Blizzard Sorceres: hit Blizzard, teleport, wait few seconds, hit Blizzard… maybe some other 2-3 skills activation from time to time. And all other build are the same.

Now of course, both games have pros and cons. Some friends even complained that D3 is too complicated in terms of builds like I described or e.g. WD Spirit Barage. But D2 is too obvious and simple, 2 button skils like Super Mario.
Where is the fun in D2? In farming 1000000horus to find some obvius items that you need so you will have to do less clicks to kill stuff…

Honestly I hope D4 will be a combination of D2 and D3 in terms of this.

And mentioning clicks, in D3 is hold down hit button on a mob and the mob dies then automatticly the target switch to another mob, not need to re-click. In D2 you just need to click and click, and that is all, click.

D2 is 20 years old remember. It pre-dates the concept of character build depth that is now the norm in other ARPG games, and as an ancient game must be viewed with some sympathy by today’s standards.

It was designed as a “two active skill” game. Just look at the control setup for KB+M…it’s pathetic. Click a button to put a skill onto your mouse buttons then click again to use it? That’s ridiculous and falls flat for any build that wants to use more than 2 skills often.

In addition you have about 100 skill points to spend. Since to be effective you probably want to put 20 points in your main spam skill and most of the rest in all skills that synergize with it (even though you won’t use them), so you have very little wiggle room. Even the way skills work and how they interact is designed to push you into using 1 or 2 skills max.

Finally, the lack of respecs means very little build experimentation. So players typically just follow the known viable builds found online. There are about 20 viable end game builds so there is some life in the game yet.

I agree that there is a major problem is D2’s lack of end-game. Grinding away for items just so you can grind better is not a viable long-term deal for most players. D2 comes from an ARPG age where the campaign was the main deal, and all that mattered. This has changed over the years. Now the campaign in ARPGs is a glorified tutorial. It matters little and is a place to get used to the character you are levelling and nothing more. Heck Wolcen even lets you skip the tutorial with all new chars past the first, and start new chars in the end-game! (Which is a brilliant idea). End-game is everything now in ARPGs, and D2 seriously lacks one.

I think Blizz will need to act quick to add much more end-game activity. Especially if they hope to conpete with games like Last Epoch when it gets multiplayer in a few months.

Ya, agree with you. I know that D2 is 20 years old, I played it at that time also, and indeed this game had its time… end game is a big problem indeed in D2, D3 at leat has Greater Rifts. a Greater rift system with leaderboards will be also great for D2.

If you don’t like it, don’t play. facespalm.

Clicker Heroes is a good comparison. D2 is like Clicker Heroes and D3 like Clicker Heroes 2 in terms of quality and fun

Try making a hybrid kick/trapsin , alot of fun with abit more of utility spells to use then the other classes.
Biggest con is that she lacks damage for big party play , but she is super fun if your solo or a party up to 3.
And if you play on Solo on /players 1 she abosultly destorys with death sentry.

I think he has the two games confused.

What do you mean with: “I think Blizz will need to act quick to add much more end-game activity. Especially if they hope to conpete with games like Last Epoch when it gets multiplayer in a few months.”?

Ressurected is not meant to be a competition but a simple nostalgic trip to earn some money on the side. It will not compete with current ARPGs. In fact, if Ressurected would be the original version of a newly released ARPG by Blizzard, it would have gotten terrible reviews.

Take the game as what it is, a nostalgia trip. Blizzards actual competitor is Diablo 4.

Maybe Ressurected is not in focus for Blizzard to compete with other RPGs, BUT, this depends when Diabo 4 will be released. If D4 will come in more than 1 year then Blizzard need to provide some content in terms of end game for e.g. D2R to keep its player base. Otherwise Lost Epoch, POE 2 … that are aorund the corner will make all players to leave Diablo games and will be hard to come back after that.

Dude, even the arguably terrible Diablo 3 still survived after Path of Exile released. I have seriously no doubt that Diablo 4 will flourish even when released after PoE 2 or Lost Epoch. Hell, people got even exited about the rumor that Titan Quest 2 will be developed.

There arent many good ARPGs, there is a lot of room for many games to come.

No chance of that.

Do not underestimate Last Epoch. It is the spiritual successor to D2, brought up to date with modern day QoL and design. It has absolutely fantastic build depth, great loot and crafting, great classes (stunning class variety, with 15 classes) and really great feeling combat. Plus there’s a fairly decent end game already (still in alpha). In fact the only thing LE lacks is multiplayer, and that is coming this year apparently. LE is a truly great game and I’d be playing it right now if it has co-op, if I’m honest.

I know Lost Epoch. ARPG is my favourite genre and i am always up to date. I know about its potential and how it currently looks and i am happy, because its just another potential good ARPG that i can play.

But what exactly are we talking about here? Which game is going to the top with the most players? I mean, we should all know that the community is always split. Even Titan Quest has currently 6000 players online and we both know that there are already more sophisticated ARPGs out there.

I am not saying that Diablo 4 will be a masterpiece, i am saying it will flourish. It will have its playerbase, that i can guarantee.

Besides that, when Warhammer loses its videogame curse, it will destroy everything else.

Yes, we click the same few skills all the time, but lack of Builds?
Hell, no!

For a 20 years old game, D2 has a massive ammount of builds.
Melee Sorc, Ranger Pala, Healadin - just to name a few.
And thats just vanilla - D2LoD gave us the option to create many more builds with new items and runewords.

Blizzard is developing Diablo 4. That is how they respond to competition.

Diablo 2 Resurrected is just a remaster of one of the best video games of all time. It does not need any work. They are working on a new game.

Blizz will not need to act quickly to add end game content. This is a resurrection of a beloved game.

Young people and later generations should look at this and realize that millions of people worldwide played this and had a tonne of fun with it.

Games have progressed as 20 years have passed but this game gives you an important insight to how it all started.

Myself and thousands/millions worldwide played this for years and years and it has now become so iconic that people like me and others welcome the resurrection of this.

Forget about what happens in games now and think back how it used to be and enjoy it.

D2r has so much potential, to the guy that said this is just a nostalgic trip waiting for d4… that’s actually super black pill. I hope you are not right.
