D2R Needs end game! what we farming for?

Where is the difference between grinding to hit higher GR in D3 and grinding to find better items or better stats on it in D2R?

I still don’t get why people from D3 so badly want to implement so destructive systems as GR? Of course, you don’t see that this broke D3 because now only what you are doing is grinding GR to hit a higher lvl and that’s it. You simply chase in ladder board and chase to boost your char by a few dmg numbers or so.

It’s no so great system as you think btw.

If you don’t know what to do try them different characters, maybe HC maybe D2Classic (without expansion). Maybe PvP? There are a lot of things to do but if you don’t feel it then it’s time for you to leave and go further.

This is simply the truth.

P.S. Don’t try to make another D3 with GR where loot is everywhere where you are looking…

Best for you mate,

What a great way to start a conversation with the game’s core community
Crawl back to D3, please.

I still don’t get why people from D3 so badly want to implement so destructive systems as GR?

Because they are selfish, and when they don’t understand something (like why D2 is the way it is) they immediately want to change it.

People like OP, and a couple other vocal whiners on this forum want to turn D2 into this samey amorphous blob of “generic modern ARPG”, having the same features that they like in other games, without giving 0 thought to WHY D2 is still played 20 years later. They honestly do not understand the core loop of D2, so they come yelling “no endgame! 20 years to farm! broken loot! Look how my favourite game X does everything that I don’t see in D2!” As rude as the phrase “go back to your game X” is, it is actually the best suggestion for them  D2 is just not for these people.

To make a silly analogy:
Its like liking a pizza with anchovies. It’s your favourite pizza, its so good. But once you decided to order a pizza with rocket and prosciutto. They bring it to you, and you say "this pizza is kind of lacking. I wish it had anchovies. The waiter says: “the taste wont mix at all”. But you don’t care. You want anchovies on everything. So you spread a thick layer of anchovies on the pizza, making it this abomination of smell and taste. Of course, you could just enjoy your favourite pizza, but you don’t choose easy options in life, do you.

GR hits harder the higher u go. To get higher u need to make your char stronger. And if u want to reach gr150 u will need to understand your build and actually think as that is different from speedrunning. Its a challenge where u can test yourself. And then u got LB which compare your achievement with everyone else on that server.

In d2 nothing hits harder, u dont need to get stronger since u alrdy stomping everything. U dont need to understand your build or improve. A casual with 0 skill can stomp everything. Its a slot machine, even the old lady with bad sight and no teeth can win.

A game mode which require ppl to work together or crafting tactics to beat wouldnt hurt the game. Doesnt mean it have to be a huge reward. A transmog, changing the color of a gear piece etc for the top clears each month or whatever so ppl can go brag. Or maybe something to do with that for spawning uber diablo as selling sojs was a thing cause of dupers. Or just a LB. Adding a real challenge for those who want.

It´s a hack n slash game. There is no real challange. It´s not like there is skill involved in D3 or other hack n slash games.
The winning combo will always be time spent grinding. Doesnt mather if its D2 and grinding for the best gear or D3 and grinding for paragorn.

If you want challange its probably wrong genre of games. Basically the end game in D2 is about grinding gear for fun and different builds.
Like people mentioning ubers as a challange, you do realize anyone can do ubers with smiter in basic budget gear?

I think you do not understand the meaning of “endgame”. At least as compared to how most other people understand it. Making artificial and essentially pointless challenges for yourself is not endgame, you can do that in every game.

D3 requires more skill though. Not everyone beats gr150. Even ppl with enough paragon struggle with it. Its not just about getting strong enough. Obv u can get stronger if u not good enough. But to stomp gr150 u would need a huge amount of paragon if u dont have skill. Something not even the dedicated players reach in a season.

Actually it is absolutely the correct genre of games for a good, well-defined and measurable challenge. ARPGs typically have scalable endgames, so as game genres go this one is ripe with challenge.

The problem is that D2 completely fails in its genre because of it age. It completely lacks a ton of features that ARPGs now have as standard, such as a scalable endgame. D2 is an absolutely terrible ARPG in today’s terms. Only the threads of nostalgia keep it going. Donlt get me wrong, I love D2 but only because of the nostalgia; it cannot hold a candle to Last Epoch in any area whatsoever, except co-op which LE doesn’t have yet. I am laughing my ass off at how sedate and casual D2 feels compared to modern games. And there is zero build depth here to boot which doesn’t help. If D2 came out today without the brand name behind it, it would laughed out of the ARPG club in disgrace, as disappear quickly.

You know how to get taken seriously and have a polite and factual debate? Start your thread by calling people who disagree with you “neckbeards”.

/sarcasm

Good point, but you’ll never get D2 purists to agree, mostly because of ignorance. D2 in comparison to D3 requires zero skill. This is because gear and build will carry you through all standard content, and there is no scalable endgame where skill would actually come into play, so there is nowhere to go. Much as I dislike D3, it is true it requires some skill where D2 does not.

Harder because mobs have more hp and dmg? You need to be stronger to go higher so you need to farm the same items with higher numbers on them, right? Sorry but there is no pleasure in it and I don’t see any reasonable reword by doing this, just a higher position on the leaderboard. Maybe for you, it’s ok but for me or others, it doesn’t have to be.

And that kind of end game doesn’t suit D2 style. And once again, by adding this you will make the second D3 where you already have it.

I just don’t feel to farm numbers (paragons) to go lvl up. I prefer to find for example all items in-game.

So for you or others and game is to do GR? And when you hit GR150 what then? GR160? You can go like that till infinity you know?

It’s not only about skill but still, you need items and paragons so simply you need to farm this and then try to beat mobs using higher dmg than you had before.

What exact skill do you need in D3? I need to understand this because I see that it’s a big argument for you/others. I will be glad to really understand this.

I think that all that you are saying or want will be in D4 which will be comparable with today’s terms as you said. I may be wrong by I think it will be like that.

And I think that all fights here are because Blizz makes mostly remaster of graphics nor remakes which you all want.

Best,

This. People have incorrect expectations because they don’t know the difference between remaster and remake.

Yes! The men build careers, families and societies while the bois play D3 :joy:

Sure if you count not dying of boredom as skill.
I mean even the best player last season needed 200+ hours prepartion 80+ hours fishing with over 3k+ Paragonlevel to beat a gr150. Most of the time is +1 content where the greatest excitement is to finde an item you already have with slighty better stats. I you like this kind of game design good for you.

Totally false. The Greter Rifts system in D3 made that D3 is still alive. The fact that noobs like you did not like it because you were week at it that’s other discussion.

D2R is dead if they will not add an end-game.

I personally get extremely bored already. Most probably I will stop playing at all or enter d
sporadically to do 2-3 cow runs.

otherwise the question is very valid: for what to farm for? there is no challenge…

D3 sucks don’t bring any of that trash game here please.

D2R isn’t going to be dead. It’s still alive after twenty years. D3 is a trash game and won’t be around that long, let alone get a remaster.

Question is for what to do GR? There is no purpose. What after you hit GR150? 160? It’s Pointless to do that. It is not what core Diablo idea was.

Greater Rift offer the possibility to test/becnhmark you build. How do you know in D2 how better is your build by finding a new good item? you do not know, you kill Chaos Sanctuary in 33seconds and not 36seconds or?

Greater Rifts offer a competition, having leaderboards. What do you comptete in D2? something like I found more poststamps than you or?

Greater Rifts are a way to play the game even after 10 years by not doing THE SAME Diablo Runs, Baal runs… brainlesly for 10000000 times. Each Greater Rift is different, having a random layout, random mobs spawn, random boss, you just be prepared for everything and you are always at he limit when pushing, there is challenge. What challenge do you have now in D2?

Sure its a increased challenge. Just like normal to nightmare. Atleast in d3 the difficulty scale with your character so it doesnt get too ez.

Isnt that what u do in d2 aswell? In d3 u need to get stronger yes but not only cause of items but from paragon and understanding of your build.

So if u dont like that mode u dont need to play it. Some ppl like it. Its for those who want more challenge and somewhere to compete. Its a online game why shouldnt ppl be able to compete with others? Why must be stomp everything in d2 and facetank everything? Whats wrong with mobs biting back?

Because u dont like it? Why wouldnt it suit. Some ppl would love it.

No it would still be d2. Infact d2r. If u want the old classic game there is d2 classic. Why we need a second d2 classic?

None is requesting paragon in d2r. So dont need to worry about that. Ppl just asking for more challenge. Give the broken gears a purpose other than just farming faster for gears u alrdy have.

Same like when u beat hell then what? Rmb its just 1 more thing to do. U still have everything else in the game u want. Also the point is to keep gr150 hard even impossible. There is only a fraction of ppl who do gr150 in d3 season. Obv the season theme have a huge impact on the amount of clears but still. Most ppl wont reach it thats why its fun. A challenge for dedicated players.

Never said its only skill. There is skill required though and much more of that than in d2.
They balance the game around 5k = 130gr (None season). And ppl beat gr150 with 3k. Obv its only the skilled players who does that. PPl who got less skill need higher paragon. Some wont beat it even with 6k paragon. D3 content creators make several guides for every build covering the basics of each build. The better u understand the build and the mobs u fighting the higher u can go.

Ppl who hit a wall and cant get higher is mainly cause of lack of skill. Lama for example did what? gr35? Complained he needed better gears. I could do way higher than him with the same gears. He just isnt good and lack knowledge. There are plenty of casuals who blame it on gears and paragon. Sure to beat gr150 u need some gears and paragon. But the same apply in d2. U sort of need some gears to beat hell solo.

Understanding of the build and how to maximize its dmg output. Depending on build. U got twister which require u to time your twisters to deal maximum dmg. U got FB which require u to understand the affixes and which mobs to fight and where to fight them and how to make your MI’s to hit the target instead of running away and how to optimize your CoE timing. U got god DH which requires u to know where u should position yourself and from which distance u must attack to get maximum dmg and which affix u must find and how to keep it alive etc etc etc. Its different from d2 where u can just facetank and cast your dmg skill. Not to mention how to build your character and the ups and downs depending which stats u pick and how u can squeeze out that little extra dmg. Is it perfect? By all means no. Is it better in d2? Yes by far. Go play d3 try reach gr150, watch vids and understand the builds. U will realise its not only the gears and paragon which prevent u from reaching gr150. Only new casual players think that.

Here is a example. 40-70% more dmg if u know 1 thing about the build. Now there is plenty of other things about the build. A casual spam twisters and good player time their twisters and place them in the right place in the right corners. Doing that the proper way is way harder than ppl think. Not to mention every GR is different map and different mobs and different pylons. U need to understand how to make the best of what u got.
