Dang, my level 77 Sorc just had her (and my) first ever death. Not bad for SSF, given I have 8 chars at various points in Hell atm, all wearing crappy gear like Stealths, Lores and Ancient Pledges.
I didn’t bother going for the body as it was in an extremely dangerous room with multiple elites in it. Yup, I crapped it and exited the game.
However I wasn’t thinking and forgot that I’d lose experience (don’t care about the gold). I didn’t notice how much until it was too late; and I have no idea how far on my bar was to next level anyway.
Can anyone estimate for me how much Exp you lose (in terms of the 10 yellow blobs in your Exp bar) on dying at level 77?
Basically I want to know if it’s worth risking it for the body next time. I remember the bad old days back when I played PoE, when a single death around level 80+ amounted to many full days of grinding endgame maps just to get back to where you were Experience-wise. Please tell me it isn’t like that? And can you lose a level due to death? I guess no since I already spent all the points. Thanks.
You won’t loose a lvl. Just go back to 0 xp for the lvl you are on. Remember game name log out log back in body in town.
Maps same so you don’t really loose where you are or going
As far as i know your xp will be lost anyways and you can’t get that back by collecting your body. But XP will be hard to gain from lvl 92 upwards and can take you a few days to hit a new level. So you better don’t die that often
The wiki says you get 75% of it back if you get the body.
Well, didn’t know that thanks for the update. Since i don’t play Softcore it doesn’t really affect me that much. But the XP grind is still troublesome and tedious
Well I have no hard figures either, but as long as you still level up regularly as you should in 70’s levels, unless you play in too low zones, a really dangerous situation might be wiser to just accept the xp loss. Above level 90 though I would say it is really worth it to try to recover if your merc can do it with some grinding.
Keep teleport to town open and close to you and use as soon as merc death, if play something like assassin keep fade up all the time and if can dart in and click body and run do so. Also if play with command x player offline, remember resetting it works immediately and can help to retrieve body.
as far as i recall each time in hell was 20 % of xp loss of either your total lvl xp or current lvl xp with a modifier… but that info is hazy at best
Play HC, no XP loss there…
XP Death loss penality is 5% in Nigthmare and 10% in Hell. (4th column of Difficultylevels.txt for modders)
your current XP (cannot go below your current level)
OK so the Experience loss is a direct function of how full my bar is at time of death? And hence if I die trying to get the body back, the second Exp lose is smaller. And furthermore the Exp loss will only be as much as one full yellow blob on my bar if my bar is 99.999% of the way to next level when I die.
IIRC it’s 10 percent of the exp needed between your current and next level in hell, or a whole bar for each death (you never lose a level though), and you get 75% of that bar back if you collect your corpse. So if you die at a really bad place and you suspect you will die 3 more times trying to collect it you lose out on it compared to save & exit → rejoin.
Also, ALWAYS retrieve your corpse naked, never use any other gear or you risk losing all gear on your main corpse. If you exit and rejoin the game you only get back the corpse with highest gold value (when sold at vendor). Even if you stay in game and try until you get the corpse it’s always a risk of game crashing, servers go down or the internet connection coughs.
