Failed Runeword?

So i bought a mace from the vendor that had 2 sockets and grayed out text. Steel allows for mace classes. I put in the Tir El and nothing happened. Anyone know what’s going on?

Item in question:

Axe, club, sword no mace

you sure its a white item and not magic (blue) ?

Id have linked the item image but blizz doesnt allow that. But its still gray “Gemmed Mace”.

Put spaces in the link. We can remove them to get the correct url.

Did you insert the runes in the correct order? Tir first, El second.

I put in the link with spaces and I tested a normal mace and it works just fine.

I fixed the link so the image shows.

You are not the first one who fell for that.

Even if the tooltip says “Mace”, it’s considered a “Scepter” when it comes to runewords. Steel does not work on “Scepters”.

Good to know. Thanks

They could consider changing a few tooltips IMO.

They could introduce a “Scepter” class to make it more clear, but that would require changes to barbs “Mace mastery” and similar skills which currently state “Mace” and work with scepters.

Yeah id be down with the removing arbitrary exceptions to their rules. Can’t a scepter just be a mace? I assume it’s programmed somewhere else that something buffs scepters and that’s why but it’d be nice for the in game tool tip to be updated.
