Game is not idiot proof

Hi, I’ll just explain the problems I had playing D2R as a happy D3 player.

First of all, I have never played the OG Diablo 2. I played D3 and Immortal (I quit it).

  • The first problem was trying to figure out what to do. I created a ladder character with my GF, joined an Act I game in the lobby and tried to proceed. But there were quests that were not playable (or I could not figure out). If this was D3, we would have no problem with the progression. We were like OK, what are we supposed to do now? The game was not guiding us.
  • We died and we lost all of our gear and gold. We were like WTF? We did not choose hardcore. Had to watch a YouTube video to learn the coprse thing…
  • OK now, we are playing online and there are other players on the map an I can see the player list on the left of the screen but I can not click on them. I can understand that this is not D3 and there’ll be no option to teleport to them but why do I have to click Ctrl to be able to click on those avatars?
  • Why do I have to press Alt-Tab or middle mouse button to see a 90s style map that covers the screen? It’s not 2000. I know that this is a remake of an old game but why not put the option to enable a beginner friendly mini map? Or as in the title, idiot friendly?
  • To compare items, I have to press Ctrl. Why? D3 does that with mouseover.

To sum up, this game feels like a 90s game with super graphics that gives you no idea about what to do. I’m 35 and I really don’t want to watch a video for every single thing in this game.

Regards
The Idiot.

You will figure out most of the basics in the game by yourself. This game has indeed a little bit more deph than D3 and to learn it all you have to either invest time doing it or watch videos like you said.
If that’s not what you want then just move on to a more simple game like D3.
Back in 2000 Gamedev had different standards than today. They expected people to trial end error themselfes and that was totally fine. Every feature requires developement time and implementing those features you are asking for will cost you game deph or increase the price of the product.

Actually old games had manuals with instructions for the game  you didn’t have to sit around and guess.

It literally is this. Not for everyone but great for people who grew up loving games that didn’t hold your hand and asked you to learn as they play. You cant compare it to a game that was developed in and for a different generation of players.

Yes this is a 90s game. The people who are going to enjoy it are probably for the most part only going to be those who played it at the time.

As you said it’s a 90s game where people still had the brains to figure out obvious stuff on their own cause they weren’t made braindead by smartphones, influencers, streamers, CNN agendas, LGBTQ+++++ and friday for futures.

I think in 20 years from now people will need a manual on how to breathe.

You can change the position of the map in Option to be on the side instead

because for some strange strange reasons, rose tinted glasses of old man nostalgia, many features that do not belong in 2022 gaming scene are still being left to exist in Diablo 2. Yes it is a REMAKE, but that doesn’t mean IT CAN’T BE IMP[ROVED. Imo, in this aspect, they did failed completely by listening to no changes crowd, a minority, tho very very vocal minority.

sorry, what? What is the matter with you pal?

I actually lolled , kids today dont even know they are born

You have all the info you need in the game manual.

… it’s automatically improved by making it idiot proof? Or is it just changed?

… there are options for a minimap.

… there are reasons to read equipment other than compare.

… there are many silent d2 players.

… diablo 2 will probably be still be improved, and has evolved somewhat, but I don’t think it will/should ever become what you’re suggesting it could be. It remains the game it became for a many a good reason - I’d venture to claim it has been quite adequately play tested by its audience, and although it has undergone some changes, resurrected imho is a pretty perfect example of how to pay tribute, preserve, and move forward an excellent game without ruining memories, expectations and/or distorting the game.

… for everything I suspect you want, you still have d3. I’m pretty sure d2 won’t be taken away from those that enjoy it; sorry that’s it’s not for you. I’m sure we’re all looking forward to d4; may it give us all what we want, whether or not we know it yet.
