Hello everyone, i’m trying to get some gear to be ready for hell dififculty but i failed.
I’m using a guide from internet (i tried to build alone but failed and now using a guide and i still struggle) of a leveling barbarian, main skill warcry, i havent switched to any build yet because i have no gear.
At this moment i can farm diablo nm, i am level 69, not fast but fast enough, is this a good place to look for items? I can do cow level too but mana issues is annoying for me and i prefer diablo. I also tried travincal bosses which its faster than diablo but im afraid its lower area and get less items.
I just need help with pointing where to look for items because i cant find anything i see in the guides. Good items are so hard to find? I cant even farm in hell or im too newbie to prepare for.
Thank you!
the area level difference between travincal and worldstone keep is only about 10 levels so i think you will be fine in regards to loot
personally i prefer to run as large a variety of areas as possible not to get weary. whats mostly the negative impact is less exp, but doing extra runs because you mix up the scenery and enemies a bit will solve that
are you playing classic/pre-expansion? Or expansion / including act 5?
Since you didn’T mention act 5 …
If you play expansion, than one idea is to farm countess in act 1 for runes.
You can also go for Terror Zones since you seem to have finished NM.
I’m playing in online, season character, game with expansion. I’m a fan of this game, own all diablo games, 3 and 4 its easier.
I was asking because here if i use respec from quest i cant go back that easy like in 3 or 4 so if i do it wrong i may fail as character and have to start over.
I am level 70 now, i did respec last night into whirlwind, but i am weaker than the leveling version now…i hope i can strugle a bit and get some items otherwise i cant continue. I wish we had a easy way to modify skill tree and atributes.
I will look for something to kill a boss directly, because when i reach diablo he’s dead in like few seconds, the way to him its longer and i can die now, ive spend points into strenght to use a weapon i dont have yet, so its a - in vitality.
I will aim for a 2nd bloodletter and 1 arreat’s face to help me get going. Wish me luck or point some area where i can try and farm some items for ww barbarian.
Thank you!
people can have varying opinions on how fast you have to kill, but its genuinely impossible to reach a point in d2 where you are forced to start over, no matter how you spend your points. survivability mainly comes from loot, or if you max a bunch of defensive skills to become immortal its just about getting the right weapon
if you have enough resistances then diablo cant kill you no matter how long you have to fight him. on nightmare and hell his lightning storm reach adds a bug where you can stand close enough that it does not hit you from some angles. if you can attack him from that position you only need to worry about your fire resist and defense, chug some thawing potions down to lower the damage and length of his cold touch. utility potions stack in duration
maybe for your case since you use whirlwind, its your merc that has to get in a position that bugs out lightning storm. though as you prob already figured out, whirlwind is more useful for cutting through weaker crowds than it is taking on a single tougher target. you might want to use some other skill even if its lower level
Hit the countess frequently. Collect runes and gems and cube, cube, cube. Shouldn’t take you too long to acquire: spirit swords on swap for casting shout and battle orders. Make yourself a myth armor. Make lore helm on a barb helmet that boosts other skills. Put insight on your merc to help with mana issues. You have outgrown bloodletter, those are good for a while, but it’s expired now. Plus, it’s costly to repair. If you cube enough runes, a nice powerful weapon for what it’s worth is the runeword oath. That weapon can help you advance more. Or trade some runes for a better weapon.
I tried, i failed. I did used my last respec to go from leveling build with war cry to whirlwind, i was level 71 and it got worse. Now i barely survive so i abandoned for the moment the barbarian. I am growing another character now and help my barbarian with that later when i reach this area i am now into, hoping i will be able to farm with more aoe skills and range, i think it was a bad choice to start with barbarian or i am too newbie. I will insist more and i hope i will not prove myself not worthy.
thats ok, sometimes its simply more fun to start over and do what you wanted starting from the beginning
in the case you were in it still would have been better to use level 1 concentrate over maxed out or near max whirlwind in that fight, unless you had good lightning res and damage reduction, or high battle orders to soak the lightning storm
but moving forward i would say dont worry about respeccing. its ok to make a build with more than one offensive skill, if you are in a similar case of having maxed warcry but then found bloodletter. all offensive skills do things different, so they synergize in their own ways. actual synergies are only there to make otherwise too similar or poor matching skills work together. before those synergies were added, people avoided those combinations because it genuinely made no sense to max those skills on the same character. you wouldnt see a sorceress pick 5 skills from the same elemental tree without synergies for example
since most barb skills are not flat damage, its also ok to put a few points into them, just enough to get decent attack rating. then let weapon damage and skill boosts do the rest
If you want hell to be “easy” farm NM TZs until you can make Obedience/Oath/Grief + Lawbringer, a Smoke/Treachery, and a Hearth Helmet (or some other sort of Cannot be Frozen), as well as a source of mana/life leech.
I’d also recommend an angelic amulet/ring + a mana leech ring + craft some blood gloves. Also make a Black to CB down bosses.
While this is certainly “over farming” for most experienced players, if you are struggling its not “that” much extra farming in the grand scheme of things. Like most melee/physical characters now that TZs exist you are kinda better off staying there for a while if you aren’t farming gear on a separate character. I mean NM TZs can drop all the way up to Ber.
to be honest starting fresh as a barb if you dont have a team is not optimal, i would suggest you make a sorc first so you can farm areas such as cow/countess/meph/diablo to get some runes/bases/charms/uniques, if you farm with barb, use find item skill and do travs/chaos/pitt, you can try to make a unbending will runeword which is not bad mid lvl and shouldnt be to hard to find the runes if you run NM countess/cows/chaos
also skip everything beside seal bosses in chaos to speed it up, you can use leap and howl to push every monsters away so yyou can 1v1 Seis, Vizier, Infector, you kill the 3 and pop alll 5 seals, everything dies, and you can loot the body with find items skill.
if you play softcore, maybe focus on a 2Handed weapon WW \ Berserk build, if you play HC, find a shield and go concentration/zerk
late game i prefer to go double throw/frenzy/zerk, but it all depend on how you like to play.
TLDR, make a cheap blizz mf sorc as 1st toon and farm some basic runes and unique to make your barb viable, beside Oath/grief/lastwish/death/botd most of the elite uniques are not viable once you hit hell, beside couples which you wont find on 1st day hehe such as runemaster, death cleaver, grandfather and bunch of other mid lvl ones you can upgrade with cube to elite
here couple items you can try to make to push it to hell and farm better stuff than NM
runewords weapon, Passion, Honor, Black, unbending will, Crescent Moon, Lawbringer, oath, insight, obediance.
shields
splendor, sanctuary, spirit, rhyme
armor
duress, prudence, smoke, stone, tearchery
thoses are all easy to make low/mid runes items that can easily push you threw hell where you’ll find upgrades such as good uniques, high runes, charms/jewels/bases.
barb is easy tbh, but if you didnt play the class much he can seem bad, you really need weapon if you wanna progress fast on him, the quicker you can make a grief, the better it will be
to be fair, on the farming bit, the loot that is most likely to drop are weapons because there are so many types of them. and barb is very self sustaining when it comes to survivability, so that is really all he needs. it gets more difficult to find the right thing once you go for a weapon mastery, but other than that its a buffet of good weapons. there will always be something useful even with low mf
