Hey, french player here.
I was just chatting with my brother and the filter just triggered on “tard” into “Il se fait tard” (it’s late).
I wasn’t able to create a toon named Hammerdin or JewelBank … So tell me why I can’t name my toon after an item type, but this same item type is allowed ingame …
The filter also trigger on some common french word which just make no sense.
I also noticed the filter in the bnet client, and as far as I can tell, there was no problem like two month ago …
Blizzard, you’re just going too far into these various censor policies … The community isn’t the problem overall (and for such people, there is a reporting feature …)

Language filter on demand, not as Baseline would fix this
we are all mature and the game is 16+ isn’t it?

I was playing with a couple of people and we cleared most of nightmare before a few of us had to go.
After I said bye, the last guy wrote in chat.
“Thanks for the run #@#$@@!”
I thought he was being rude because we didn’t clear ancients.
Turns out “Moojmancer”, my characters name was being filtered.
Yes, but it won’t really solve my bank name problem … Because let’s be dumb, their filter don’t let me call a toon with “Jew” in it, so the same “Jew” should be filter anywhere else in the game …
I encountered a filter on the word “jap”… Germans use this sometimes to just say yes. A friend of mine constantly uses this and I was super confused.
Imo the filter is broken and obviously there is no resource to fix this right now since there are a lot of other things that has to be done.
In my opinion there should be no filter at all since this game is anyway about slaying dead corpses and blood everywhere. I can type all I want in the Launcher, why not in-game?
Yeah, language filter is a pain.
You can play in M rate game where you see violence, etc.,
but can’t talk normaly in chat.
It is stupid.
Language filter must be OPTIONAL setting.
Firstly, there is no point in filter at all, because this filter can be easly avoided.
e.g. country “Nigeria”, filter will mask word, but if i add 1/2 spaces between laters it is ok.
Ofc it has gone too far. Guess everyone is just afraid of not being pc or to offend someone. It’s so dumb. By the way, this started very early on already. Back when Diablo 3 first released. I found a rare ring named “something something crippled band”. Therefor half the itemname, when you hovered over it, was censored. They censored their own itemname that they have given the chance to be rolled. Pathetic and hilarious.
Country names are also being filtered? Sheesh!
It does not make sense to have language filter on 16+ game. It should be optional for who wants it!
I didn’t mean to necro this thread. Unsure as to why it showed high up on my thread list.
This isnt going too far.
This is just the result of a lazy coder who simply wrote a 5liner comparing a string with bad boy words and neither taking localization nor higher meanings like the difference between Jew and Jewel(from your example) into consideration.
