Hi there,
I want to ask you what your strategies are for finding your loot. Perhaps I am not doing this task in the most efficient way (most definately the case ), so its always interesting to hear what others do, that way I can adapt my strategy and get gg gear faster. Perhaps this thread will help others like me too.
I am mostly interested in where you MF, what types of characters you use and how you setup your game if it impacts your strat.
Here is what I do:
I use 2 sorceresses and both have ~300mF. I find this level of mf most optimum as deminishing returns make more mf impractical. Lets say that I also use mid game gear for both and that some of the gear is shared.
One is a lvl 93 frozen orb and flame wall sorceress (lets call this one OrbWall) and another that is a lvl 89 blizzard sorceress (and this one Blizz). OrbWall has killed baal but Blizz has NOT killed diablo.
I use OrbWall to create the game (solo). Because of the battlenet game entry timer (or what ever its called) I use her to kill either Andariel, Mephisto or nihlathak. I then leave the game and re-enter with Blizz and farm Chaos sanctury. I ignore all oblivion knights except for those close to Lord De Seis. Diablo is also quest bugged so I get quest drops from him everytime. rinse and repeat.
I have had some success playing this way. So far I have created 118 games with this strat and some of my most notable drops include 1x Soj, 2x LO, 1xVex, 1x CoA (with nice stats) a bunch of Shakos, shed load of destruction keys (with old Nihl). There were alot more usefull items that I have not recorded.
I only have one character: a Bonemancer - level 92.
When I started farming he was dressed with entry level items with 150-200mf.
I started farming Pindleskin, Shenk ~200 times - got things worth a vex;
Then chaos & riverflame runs - killing everything ~ 300 of those; altogether worth about a Lo;
Then I went into last Act high level areas ~200 times; altogether stuff worth a Vex; but did find a Jah and in a corpse.
Then went into doing Mefisto/Travincal ~80 times; altogether stuff worth an um;
Then I tried Act3 areas for rune drops(all chests in the 3-4 levels of kurasts); ~400 runs, 100 alone, 300 with 2-4 players; I got close to 300 perf gems, and a few high runes; 1 ohm, 1 ber, 1 ist;
Then I managed to do Enigma(this was 3 weeks ago).
Since then Iāve alone ran Andariel 1300 times with 250 mf(looking for 2 soj); I found 1. But overall stuff worth a sur approximately.
My total wealth since Iāve started playing(game launch): ~3 Jah;
My goal is to build my character as nice as I can and enjoy it along the way until there.
My recommendation for farming depends on what you look for, and what you enjoy still doing in this game.
OK be aware that MagicFind has absolutely no effect on Rune Drop.
Magicfind only affect rarity of object with rarity (Normal/magic/rare/set/unique) nothing else.
Quite right! I mentioned my MF just to give an idea for people to know what I was running without going into to detail about my gear. And I simply mentioned runes because they were some of my most notable drops, I have found some pretty hard to come by uniques like Azurath (from chaos santuary mobs) and arachnids mesh from (Nihlathak). Perhaps I should have mentioned those instead.
If you get thousands of rings and they are all cathan rings after the so called ārngā algorythm which supposedly should grand some sojā and bk rings and rare stat rings.
The rng is scuffed.
If you get thousand of shakoās and none of them is unique, but all of them are normal or rare, not even magic, something is scuffed.
If you keep rolling every number 1-4 but never 5 or 6, something is very scuffed because thereās no longer an rng at work.
The mathematicians whom had to commit their life to calculate random rolls before implementing fixed algorithma sacrificed their lives in order to maintain random rolls and balance.
They did not succeed. Thereās multiple of fixed algorithma based on playerbase profiles and Blizzard uses Amazoneās Bezosā one. You claim thereās RNG but Jeff Bezos bought it and made it fixed instead of random.
If you claim itās not, you are not even a clown yet another troll in the wall.
No one is claiming anything about RNG in this thread.
What I asked was where you MF, what character you use, how you setup your game and then posted how I farm. Thats it.
I it get though. It is tedious to find items worth anything in this game. I have gone through epic dry spells back in the day, finding nothing but Flamebellows and Manald Heal rings. From your post, it looks like you have had a similar experince? Perhaps Im just over analysing thingsā¦
Why dont you share your farming strategy with us? That way everyone can help each other in finding the most optimum way of finding those sort after items.
Coa um
Forti ap

upped goreās
hoto+spirit / stormlash+blackoak
No actual rotation, just killing everything on sight quickly with ease, mostly while at work and putting some traps in between to clear the area and stay safe. I donāt create alot of games and iddle/afk alot.
Clearing every area possible preferable 85+ but it depends on the mood. I love act 2 for the theme music, harem is the best imo. Finding alot of trash and too much gems everywhere. I will not leave the game without clearing travincal, sanctuary and worldstone keep.
Found a nearly perfect heavenās light today +3 +300%ed +20life/demon kill⦠1 socket.
I will not deny that I have had forum restrictions due to behaviour and this only strenghtens my suspicious toughts towards fixed algorithma implemented. But recently Iāve been a good player and I found a jah, while at work using a vpn routed in the usa.
I have a question pertinent to this topic.
I did some research and as far as I understand every time a Shako drops there is a chance for it to be unique, and the more magic find I have up to around 300% the easier it is to roll a unique, is that correct?
Well I did some casual rotations yesterday and today.
It went like (edit, in Hell) Black Marsh > Countess > The Pit > Catacombs and Andariel > Lost City and Ancient Tunnels > Mephisto and council around him > Eldrich, that wip guy bellow Eldrich and Pindleskin.
Had 268% MF
I dropped a lot of set itens and a lot of uniques, but I didnāt see a single Shako, not white nor blue or yellow.
Exactly how legendary of a drop is a Unique Shako?
Your best options are to just run Andariel or Mephisto and both have a 1 in 800ish chance to drop one with 300 magic find.
At 0 mf itās 1 in 2k with andariel having a slightly better chance.
There two parts.
First part - MF as is.
For most cases we look at MF as āincreased chances to get uniqueā
It capped to 250, this is mean - you canāt get chance on unique from all you mf highest then +250%.
Basicaly, chance on unique from you MF count as (you_mf * 250) / (you_mf + 250) remainder rounded down.
So, if you have 100% mf on your character, it is +71% chance to unique. 200% mf is 111% chance to unique, 300% is 136%, 500% is 166%. And in theory, with 250000% MF you get 249.58 (rounded down, so 249) chance to unique.
Second part - monsters have TC (treasure class) and items have quality level (ql)
White shako have ql=58, so it can be dropped by most mobs on Nightmare act4 and act 5
But unique shako have ql=69, this mean when mob with level less then 69 generate drop and it roll base item shako - it always fail roll to be unique due low quality level.
Same for chest - some superchest has hardcoded ql for drop and if it less then 69 - you canāt get unique shako from it.
Btw, my first shako in D2R was from chest near entrance Durance of hate lvl3, not from Mefisto.
And finally - about chances. As i say above - first, mob should drop base item. I.e. usual mobs and champions have very low chances (like ~1:1.5k for champs and 1:5k for white mobs) This mean - you can kill like 1.5k champions or 5k white mobs and even not see any white shako. Uniques have more high chance to drop (like 1:650), this mean one base shako can be dropped per ~650 killed uniques. Of course, it canāt be white, at least magic (94%) or rare (5%) or unique (1%).
Ok, now you have 300%mf, as we know - its a 136% increase chance to unique, what this mean? This is mean base chance (1.2%) multiplied by this value. So, 1.2 * (1 + 1.36) = 2.8% this is chance to unique shako from 300% mf.
This is why some ppls not focused on mf numbers (with low base chanses big mf not as good, hundreds multiplied by zero is zero) but on kill speed, focus on quick find and kill all uniques mobs on map. Yes, mf is still good but not as primary stat. More important - how many uniques killed in time. Rest is RNG.
Hope i help you and sorry for not fluent english (not native speaker)
I dropped a perfect 141 unique shako on diablo with my 0 mf paladin
My paladin has a āgiftā of finding rare things on 0 mf:
leviathanās
griswoldās redemption (almost perfect, 4oc)
perfect shako
If only he was as good at finding bases and runes (his actual purpose )
usual mobs and champions have very low chances (like ~1:1.5k for champs and 1:5k for white mobs)
Numbers check out, I have at the very best killed maybe 150 champions and (counting the little rakanishus) maybe 2000 mobs at best. Thank you now I have a better understanding of what I should be expecting to drop. Iām just not very thrilled by this realization.
Edit: Did exactly 50 (using MF Timer, pretty cool) Andariel runs, saw one Shako at run 30 something. But I canāt complain I also got a Gheed and a Gore Rider.
Iām realy donāt know what you can farm 20 years in this game with HR drop increased in 1.13 patch. Even if you run for Holy Grail, it can take from few weeks to two-three months, but 20 years?
yes. I was asking at a moment about strange drops/loot behavior in D2R and some dinosaurs around here told me that only after I farm 20 years I can have a opinion about loot because this game is supposed to be farm 20 years contiously - they name it: āold good randomā
