My "new" findings about D2(R): true or not?

I have been recently watching many video (and text) guides on D2R as well as comments to them and ran across several things which I forgot / did not know. I am still unsure about some of these findings and would like to ask more expert players to confirm or refute the following:

  1. Andariel quest bug
Some say that it is imperative after killing Andariel to leave the monastery by portal, go straight to Warriv, ‘travel East’ and quit the game after arriving in Lut Golein not talking to anyone else in the process. Some say, however, that it is not obligatory – you should just not forget to travel to Lut Golein at some point before quitiing the game in which you killed Andariel.
  2. /players 8 command is actually mostly irrelevant for loot (not for exp): loot is capped at /players 3
  3. Cold immunity now can be broken by Sorc’s Cold Mastery.
  4. Pindleskin portal does not disappear even if you activate the portal inside Nihlathak’s temple.

Thanks.

  1. As long as you travel to LG at any point in the same game you will get bugged Andy. The bug lies in the quest data, when you kill Andy and exit, it marks A1 Q6 as “andy killed=true”, which means that Andy never drops “quest drop” anymore. Travelling to LG at any point in the same game will never set that boolean value, but will complete the quest. As a result you will get quest drops every time you kill her in all succeeding games.
  2. Partically incorrect. Loot is actually locked to player 7, as the expanded loot is added for each 2 new players. This means that on both players 7 and 8 you will get the same amount of loot. Note, this affect only loot amount, not loot quality.
  3. Yes, as I personally found out yesterday. This is suspected to be a bug, we need more info from developers.
  4. This was one of the changes for the remaster. Another one - cow king killing no longer prevents you from opening new cow levels.

  1. Seems more reasonable that is should reduce resistance, due to the fact that monsters have seriously higher cold resistance than any other resistance in the game.

So they knew about the skill and most likely thought they had to balance the monsters for that skill otherwise you would be doing a whole lot more damage than normally. The other skills doesn’t say they break the immunities, just reducing overall resistance.

Thank you for your comments. The only unclear point for me is the Cold Mastery issue because my maxed-out Cold Mastery (with about +3 to skills over that) still does not seem to break anyone’s cold immunity in Hell even in combination with the Lower Res wand (maybe Blizzard have already fixed it?). :man_shrugging:

when a monster is immune it has more than 100% resistance in that school, LR or conviction applies their -%rez at 1/5 of the value. So let’s say a monster has 130% cold rez, and your conviction says -100% enemy rez, on that particular monster the 1/5 formula equals -20rez. so basically the monster remains at 110 rez thus still immune.

Yeah, that’s right. I just do not understand some fuss about the allegedely bugged (maybe even intentionally?) Cold Mastery, if in fact it really does not break the cold immunity. :man_shrugging:

How is that possible, if they have not touched core mechanics code and “only” worked on visuals?

More code changes…

I am not against these changes, but we should have a list handy and throw it at the “no changes” mob…

well lets take the same example but the monster has only 110 rez, and your 1/5 then works like this for the 11 rez applies the 1/5 and for the rez remaining applies the full effect. So the monster becomes like 70 rez. In the OG LOD, cold mastery only applied if the monster was below 100 rez and never applied the 1/5 value, this is why we still wait for info from a dev to tell us if its intended or not. Some people say that because monsters have such high cold immunity compared to light and fire and cold mastery works by -%rez instead of +%dmg, that this was bugged in the OG D2 and now it’s working as intended, guess we will see in time.

Yeah, a feedback from devs would be helpful although still seems not to matter a lot. Maybe the majority of cold immune mobs just have too much cold res to be broken even by ‘bugged’ CM. :man_shrugging:

I don’t think it’s intended.
They didn’t make any balance for d2r.

I’m still waiting for the druid to be allowed to have all wolves + grizzly active at the same time to make druid summon less trash :frowning:

I have a suspicion that they are sneaking mini-patches under the hood, or they still have bugs.
For example, my sorc with 25 cold mastery does not break the immunity of the cold immune Stygian Fuy in Throne of Destruction in Nightmare. It has 100% cold immunity, yet my skill is -125% I think.

So there are definitely issues with how damage is calculated for cold right now.

Some of those were documented in their FAQs and updates.
The cold resist breaking definitely feels like a bug.

Nope, the enemies with cold resistance have around 100 resistance and up. Going to 210 resistance, where majority is well over 120-140. So we would need even more to break through that. That is just their normal resistance, for gold enemies that have special attributes it gets even higher.
You can google Diablo 2 monster resistance and first page called Immune Monsters diablo II
Will show how cold resistance most enemies have and what other enchantment add to an enemy.

So in short we are dealing with monsters who have more than 200 resistance majority of the time.
