I know I made a topic on something similar to this but I’m at my whit’s end. I’ve tried looking at every guide on youtube and I’m still struggling.
My sorc is level 82. I’ve done a frozen orb/firewall (tried fireball but the mana cost was too much as I ran out of mana faster than using firewall and frozen orb) I have energy shield which depletes in 1 or in rare cases 2 hits.
My skill points are:
1 into all needed to reach skills.
1 point into frozen armour
1 point into energy shield
13 points into warmth
20 points into Frozen orb
20 points into cold mastery
20 points into firewall
1 point into fire mastery
*Plz note that I have in total +7 to all skills on top of these.
My stats are:
Str - 156 (for Spirit shield)
dex- 25
Vit - 354
Energy - 55
My Res are all over 55% except for poison which is at 32%
My gear is:
Weapon - Spirit sword
Shield - Monarch Spirit
Helm - Lore
Amulet - Tal Rasha
Belt - Tal Rasha
Ring 1 - Dwarf ring
Ring 2 - Random rare with faster cast rate and all res
Boots - Aldurs
Gloves - Magefist
Armour - Smoke runeword
My rings aren’t the best but can’t find many and I’ve farmed Andy for many days and lots of hours which I was expecting to happen anyway but still lacking on the rings.
I’m on act 3 in hell at the LK and am getting slaughtered. I cannot even teleport out in time as they just hit too quickly.
I can respec again but am unsure what into as most of the elites so far have been either cold and fire immune or cold and lightning immune. My choices seem somewhat limited.
I just cannot understand what I’m doing wrong as people online are doing hell with a near to naked sorc yet my items are better. I’m not jealous, angry or upset comparing to these youtubers as they are more skilful than me. I’m just confused.
Surely what gear I have on is enough for completing hell, so I’m only guessing that besides the rings, my skill points need adjusting?
I run a Frozen orb/Chain lightning Sorc and have finished hell, so i can give you some pointers.Frozen orb is great since it does not need synergies.You will need a second spell for the cold immunes.
You do not need 20 points in cold mastery.Cold mastery reduces opponents cold resist but it will not break immunities (if i am correct).I have 5 hard points in Cold mastery.Sure, you do lose some cold damage,but you will need the skill points for the second skill (fireball).
You can keep one point in warmth and use an act 2 merc with Insight.The runeword is dirt cheap.You do not need a colossus vulge for it.CV needs 210 strength! Use any nightmare polearm for Insight and you will solve mana issues.You can always upgrade later to an elite polearm when your merc can actually wield it and you find a 4 socket eth one.
You will need better gear to finish Hell difficulty.Btw you do not need to farm Chaos sanctuary or baal.For cold sorc one of the best spots for farm is Act 2 (Ancient tunnels and arcane sanctuary).You can use charms to max your resistances.
I found my ber rune in Arcane sanctuary and tons of stuff in ancient tunnels and lost city.

You don’t need a 2nd spell if you have a decent merc, but all your other points are valid, there maybe 1 mini boss in about 50 that’s immune to physical/cold, you just move on.
The 3 you tubes are quite informative, I’ve tweaked mine as its a little higher but its practically invincible to normal hell play on play

3s helm with thul, ort and ral.
Insight runeword
Duriels shell armour.
He dies way too fast at the moment and all of his res except for poison is maxed. He dies instantly from bosses and the beetles in Act 2.
1 - @MickeyETC - Thanks for the heads up on ES. I’ve looked into those build guides but I don’t have any other good items to use. I was hoping to get to Mephisto and farm him, but the minions in LK and KB are too much for me. I will rethink my skills and will up the mana for ES.
2 - @mtgfanatic - Thanks for the insight guide for the light orb build. I will give the ancient tunnels and arcane sanctuary a try for farming some items.
3 - @ kneedeep - I would if I could but firstly I’m SP in online. Secondly, I want to finish on my own, no offence to anyone but I prefer to fly solo for D2 as it gives me a feel of accomplishment.
Upgrade his Duriels, its then more tankier than fortitude, been testing it alot and comparing it, although it don’t do more bang for buck, he stays alive a few seconds longer
Get him a Vampgaze its more tankier than andys (i got a yellow jewel with 5%ED-30 Fire res +2 life regen, he uses in his helm. Although he kills ok its quite not as good as the vampgaze for sheer staying alive.
I one shot trash mobs and 2/3 shot the bosses. so my merc stays alive a lot longer,
You probably need to level him up more, once you get passed 90+ game becomes alot easier
Mephisto nightmare can drop shako, occules, skudders
Thanks Zak and MickeyETC. I’ve began farming for gear from Andy, Ancient tunnels but not arcane sanctuary as the cold immune mobs were more than the other immunes if that makes sense.
I have so far gotten my 1st shako helm with 50% MF and my 1st Raven Frost ring (gave this to my Zealot pally).
I have progressed now to Act 4 with my sorc but am unable to complete the CS as the mob boss that gets summoned by the top pillar is always cold immune, can’t get past him. I’ve switched to a fireorb build and it’s dmg is very low. Fireball consumes my mana faster than frozen orb and does barely any dmg. I can’t believe that I am struggling with a level 82 Sorc with the gear I have. Imo I have enough to complete hell, so, I must be doing something wrong as my skill to play as a sorc is not the problem as I’ve practiced alot to get used to the sorc and how she plays out with TP being the main skill imo, it must be the skills I’ve chosen to use. I’m scratching my head thinking wtf?
Thanks MickeyETC but I had some luck after restarting the game multiple times he was eventually just a fire immune (didn’t know if this was a glitch or not because every clip I’ve watched has him as cold immune). Took him out in seconds. I’m now in act 5 but again, struggling to rescue Anya in the frozen river, those yeti’s are nails lol. I can’t even reach Anya to talk and tp out, too many skeleton zombies (ones that stand back up after a while).
I’ll keep moving onwards for now as I was only doing that quest for the all res scroll.
Btw, I know we’re getting 2.4 soon but was wondering if anyone tested out the hydra build and if so, what were your thoughts? I’ve seen the vids online but I am starting to hate seeing pros talk about builds as they only do so with god tier gear, which imo ruins any hope for trying the builds out. Sick of hearing all builds needing Enigma or at times Treachery. A lot of people just don’t have the gear to make the build god tier. What I’m trying to say is, is the build (or any build in particular that anyone recommends) solid without the gear, because some builds I watch look like they would struggle to clear hell without full gear.
I appreciate the offer mate, but I want to do this solo. No offence but as embarrassing as it is or me to admit it, this is my first official character to complete hell difficulty since D2 LOD.
Thank you anyways, but I am currently experimenting a frozen orb/firewall build to balance things out. It’s a bit squishy trying to get the monsters under the wall but it’s very strong thus far. I’m practicing in CS at the moment. Btw, is LK the best place to farm high runes? I haven’t come across anything higher than a Mal rune so far. I also have a Um rune but am very iffy on using it at the moment because I wanted to try a Crescent moon but a Duress amour is very tempting for the zealot I have recently gotten to hell difficulty. My armour on all my characters are Smoke runewords for the all res.
Yes and it rocks, kills faster mobs than my frozen sorc

I have now crafted Fortitude/infinity for my Hydra-soc merc and it just kills most of the immunes to fire now, like them little critters. Baal and diablo go down in about 25 seconds
