Hi guys. I would like to find more topaz, I have many socketed armor sets and helms ready to put topazes on them, and though I have high magic find immortal king helm and armor with two perfect and two flawless topazes I created with the horadric cube so far, after a long search, there is no more topaz to be found anywhere anymore, not on monsters and not in chests. I mean I’m on nightmare, it should be flowing with at least flawless topaz, to create perfect ones with the cube. Thanks.
i think you just a bit unlucky. I get a bunch of perfect topazes every day i play. Im not even farm them specifically, they drop here and there like the other gems. Try Cow Level on Nightmare if you can or get into Hell Difficulty. Just play and they will drop.
This is about the broken Random generator in this game. It will get ‘reset’ at a moment and you will start find again topazes. e.g. atm I find only Tal, Ort, Amn, Tir runes in 99.9% of runes dropes. Needed LEM and traded for one, not saw a LEM since weeks. drops are bugged.
Anyway, do not try yo hard to increaee your MF because MF is kinda useless. When you have at least 100 is enough. this game is just about blind brain-less luck, that’s all.
There is no reset on random numbers… They are random…
As far as I remember, when something drops, the game first decide what type item drops… And then Magic Find is used to see if it’s a normal, rare, unique or set one… And MF makes it more likely to be better quality there… But MF does not make more elite/exceptional items drop, nor more runes, nor more gems… The chance of dropping an item of a specific type is always the same…
As random is random, you will sometimes see few gems, and you will sometimes get a lot of gems of types you don’t want before you see the ones you want. I play hardcore, so I’ve lost quite a few pieces filled with perfect topaz’es due to death, but it’s just a question of time. Gems are pretty common… Look out for gem shrines so you can upgrade flawless to perfect 1:1 ratio. You can do that even when levelling a low level toon. And for some reason, I seem to see more gem shrines in act 1 than elsewhere… Might be just a feeling, or random result…

topazes, diamonds and amethysts seem to be the most common ones. Rubies, emeralds and sapphires seem to be a bit rearer. Skulls are rearest.
MF has no effect on gem and rune drop.
