This is pissing me off, 4 acts and already all work is gone due to game crash. The files of the character are in folder, the game does not read them.
I did not have an online character with the same name. I restart the battlent, client, even reinstalled the game.
I cannot even create the new character because the common stash-file is broken. And I certainly DID NOT delete my account on accident. The game crash, I had to restart it and then character was gone. Save me your sorry excuses.
Do something, for this amount of cash this game should run without such bad surprises.
I will refund otherwise.
Hey man, same here. I had a bit more bitter thing. Played for one month in offline, sorc with infinity and all good gear is now gone.
That was after yesterday´s update, completely gone. Can´t enter game at all. Online seems to work without any issues but offline is done. If I remove shared stash file, it works but still I lose all my stuff and missing that one character.
All I hope now is that my sorc will pop up again on that character list… Otherwise, it´s one month job in a recycle bin.
I also did all I can to make it work again, even re-installed. I have my local files there, did not delete that sorceress…
It could mean that the Offline file has been corrupted in some way, if it still exists you could try moving it out and back in again, there was also a post here that helped out another player with a similar issue. While not an official fix, it could help you recover the character perhaps.
As always make sure to back up a copy of your character somewhere as well so you don’t lose the file completely.
unfortunately it did not work for me. I needed to delete shared stash-file (very unfortunate because I stashed runewords there) and create whole new char.
Why should I make backup for my characters? This should work as designed or what?

This shit just happened to me also. Seriously like wtf… the pain. Seems to be a D2R bug…
Edit
Ended up having to remove both my Paladin character save files and the shared stash file.
While figuring out how to do so, I dove so deep that I ended up finding Hero Editor and other mod tools, even an in-game one for Offline.
Oh well illusions done got dissipated.
