Paladin fix cause he is overpowered as hammerdin

Here is how to fix the overpowered hammerdin, remove vigor buff to blessed hammer only. Then fix sanctuary aura to apply the damage buff to all paladin combat skills such as blessed hammer, sacrifice, charge, holy bolt etc not as it is now only on melee attacks only, as concetration does. And thats it, the hammerdin will still be strong but not broken and paladin overall can do better more roles.
He can still hast strong hammers but he now has to use other skills at the same time utilizing weapon swapping, for melee or more ranged attacks like he can do some zeal, sacrifice cast holy bolts and FoH all at same time.
He will have to spread hard points to more skills as well as use soft points soo he gets bonus from synergies ad soft points increase the skills he uses the synergies. Of course he wont be able to do all at same time. Every 8 party needs 2 paladins one fanaticism one conviction.

Yesterday re-specked from Zeal/Smite(finish the Hell with this build) paladin to Hammerdin.
OMG, Hammerdin build is extremely easy to play compared to zeal/smite. Cow level? a walking in the park compared to Zeal. Diablo, Ball runs, very easy. With Zeal? man, you need to go face to face with cows, and, will hit you, hard, like all othe mobs.

2 problems here:

  • hammerdin shall not benefit from Concentration aura(as this aura has a ā€œhiddenā€ effect to increase Blessed Hammer damage by 50% of aura damage) ← this is rather a bug then a feature
  • melee builds are terrible underpowered in this game. this is why at a momnet they introduced GRIEF runeword for example, to try to increase a bit the power of melee builds which are extremely low compared to caster builds. BUT, the runes needed to do GRIEF, e.g. LO rune, DOES NOT DROP IN THIS GAME <-fix this bug Blizzard asap. On the other hand, to do weapon and shiled for Hammerdin build, Spirit, you need TAL, THUL, ORT, AMN runes, extremely cheap and extremely powerfull. Also, strenght and dexterity shall increase damage by 5% per point, not by 1%.

I can not beleive how a game from 20 years ago is such unbalanced. I can not beleive that BLIZZARD did a remake and not fix this issues. man, again, drop that LO rune in the game for the name of the gods !!!

Lol… what are you talking about? Found a Lo Rune at Summoner. So Lo Rune drops for sure. Nothing to fix here. ^^

You are from that extremely lucky or just lying. You do not understand. melee builds does not work without GRIEF, FORTITUDE… simply does not work. As doing Spirit shiled and Sword for Casters is extremely easy(low runes), then LO rune shall drop much much easier from e.g. Countess.

I think thought the hammerdin is OP, especially with Enigma.
The block rate, the defense, the immunes to magic are rare, it’s by far the build used the most by bots, it says it all.

But it is how it is and honestly I would not like that. Changing the hammerdin would be like having a cooldown on the teleport…it would completely change the game.
So, yes, the game is unbalanced…but it’s what it is and there is still fun to have with other builds. I just did an IK WW barb yesterday evening…not the best char, far from it, but fun and playable through all Hell.
You can’t expect to drive a '67Mustang and it to be and feel like a '21 one.
Playing D2R is playing a vintage game with nice graphics.
Well, it’s also and mainly…waiting in a queue even at 08:00 AM on a sunday lol

I don’t think they will do big changes to classes and skills directly.

However, when we get Ladder season 1, they will probably add new runewords and that could mix things up and shift balances

OP please leave the game and never come back again.

Hammerdin unbalance would be a plague in a MMO. I don’t see any problem in a HnS.

If you feel mad with it simply do like me: don’t play it.

if you don’t like how it is… Leave
the game is been going fine for 20 years no need to change that.

Go play offline with a char you feel is balanced you will never meet that OP hammerdin you speak of.
And please never leave offline play we cannot have you being uncomfortable with a class being better than you in some places.

I think hammer not OP, it is definitely not outperform blizz sorcs, trapasines and LF amas. What I would do, maybeeee add more magic immunes to balance with others. Another problem that magic immunes cannot be lowered like all others, if implement more magic immunes then lowres and conviction should lower magic resist too.

If you think that zealot sucks go look youtube guides. It definitely viable to BR and DR, but as any other melee not good for cows

I have a Zealot/Smiter (1point smiter) with a low Stormlash (was pretty cheap, Mal rune) and some crushing blow. Clears all content pretty easily.

Diablo 2 is not a balanced game. Period. You have to look at it differently. Every char has its unique role. You build a melee pala for uber tristram, nothing comes close to it. You build a sorc for tele/mf, you make a barb for buffing, an enchantress for quick leveling, Java for cows… And things like Frenzy barbs just to have fuuun! One of my personal favorites: the cry barb, a barb that kills enemies just by shouting at them :smiley: amazing.

All in all that is what makes Diablo 2 unique. In Diablo 3 most Classes have totally interchangeable skills. Like, every class has the HC passive, where you don’t die if you die… And every season you have 1-2 builds that are on top depending on which set they just buffed for that season, it’s a simple numbers game and has little to do with your skill or the items you find.

And just btw, Hammerdin is nothing compared to a Dreamer. That is the most op build in the game.

I agree with OP. There are like two-three mega-meta-power builds that rule the game. 99 of all chars I see are hdins and blizz sorks. This is obviously an unbalanced game. I hope blizz doesn’t listen to all these 5 loudly crying purists on these forums and introduce changes. The more the better.

But there are few thinks that can be done to balance the game a bit. Why they introduced GRIEF and FORTITUDE and… runewords at a moment? Because that runewords were needed to balance the melee builds which were a disaster. And even now are a diswaste because LO rune does not drop. Making LO rune to be easier fond at e.g. Countess then melee builds are already in pair with other ones!
What would be the problem if LO rune drop a bit easier? will this destroy the game?

Why do you want a balanced game? For pvp? A hammerdin in PVP is an horrible experience, just saying. We can all agree that rune drops sucks, the high runes are over 30.000-1 and up, and you can do nothing to change that, do i wish it could be lower? sure, Since i dont got the same time as i did when i was 12. But the hammerdin have it’s weakness 2, and other classes have it’s strength as well. You can farm with all classes, some are better at 1 type of farm than others. For example if i where to farm Cow level, i would probably go either trapsin, or javazone, If i wanted to Magic find bosses, the goto would be sorceress, either firorb, or blizzard, I just want to afk, summoner necro. Barb for tranc runs. Whirlwind druid for just having fun.

This game is a grind game, and grinding for gear and exp is all it have. welcome to how the world looked like in 2000. You bought a remaster not a remake or reimagine.
