cant this be turned off or replaced with something else or removed altogether?

sometimes the launcher does not work or is making some kind of trouble but the game would work, only without launcher there is no online activation possible; in these cases it’s impossible to play the game.

Hello eotw,

It’s preferable to launch your games through the Battle.net app to keep them always up-to-date. But if for X reason, can’t access the app, you can circumvent the problem using the D2R.exe directly. However, you’ll still be required to log in once every 30 days.
