Please add /player count online!

Because I have been playing D2 for ages. Long before D2R came out. And it’s a problem with the online, that it’s lacking the /players x function. Especially now that you cannot play using virtual lan with your friend offline. So you have to play on bnet if you want to play with a friend. But Bnet is an inferior version of the game compared to singleplayer. And I’m not going to waste my time playing non-ladder. Ladder is the only way to go.

Okay, you have perfect right to play as you wish, but /players x is definitely not for ladder. :man_shrugging:

Sure, you can think that. But like I said, I would play online more if they had it so I beg to differ. Trading is already ruined by bots on D2 so I don’t see the problem with it there. It’s too early to say with D2R however.

Unlike personal loot, I think that playersX would not affect the market negatively. Think about an average cowrun/chaos. What happens? 1-3 guys carry the game, the rest are running around half-naked, constantly dying, doing 0 damage and trying to stay “closer” in hope to snatch some lootz. In a meanwhile, 1 guy wanders off to kill Andy/Eldrich/Pindle.

I see only positive outcome of playersX. Those too weak wont use it - play in public games. Those who want to help weaklings will still run chaos/baal/cows. And finally, the annoying group who get in only to loot, will completely disappear from these games.

I’ve seen this argument in other games too and, in my opinion, it’s an incredibly flawed argument. Why would you ever force people into playing multiplayer? Just let people do whatever they want. It’s a game, after all. I personally absolutely despise playing online with random people, especially in games with shared loot. I speak from past experience and I will simply never do it again. It’s not enjoyable for me at all.

But I still want to be able to play online with my friends. Sometimes if I duo with a friend, we definitely want to be able to up the difficulty without having to invite random people to the game. When the game is too easy, it becomes boring, so the lack of the /players command does indeed make the game boring at times.

As it stands now, I’m extremely conflicted about my options, because 1) I don’t want to play online without this feature, but 2) I want to play online so that I can team up with my friends every now and then.

So no matter what I choose, I’ll miss a core feature of the game, both of which feel absolutely necessary for my enjoyment of the game. Being unable to combine the two makes me feel like not playing the game at all.

Had Blizzard kept LAN or TCP/IP support in the game, that would have been a solution for offline play, but they didn’t.

I would understand if this setting was prohibited on the ladder, but for crying out loud, add it to regular online play!

That’s not how it works. Higher player count only decreases the no drop chance of regular/trash mobs, bosses and poppables.
Champions and boss packs (that drop gg items) still have the same drop rates.

It also substantially increases monster health, damage and attack rating, making it more dangerous and slower to clear. (You get more xp though)

So your 8x argument is flawed…

And where’s the difference? There is also no point to run public MP now, because there isn’t (and won’t, sadly) personal loot. Everyone says: “if you want to farm items, make a private solo game!” instead of appreciating personal loot… So a /p-command in MP won’t do any different! (except a very few less runs for (special) items… like instead of 1000… 998!)

add ploot instead. players x would only lead to a reduction in viable builds.

What about the bots farming all day and night, do you think this inflates the economy?

Yes. All players 8 does is remove power from botters and JSP users and into the hands of legitimate fans of the series.

Ok, good points. What about then just buffing the no drop rate online since its so stupid having plenty of items with a 1 in 3.5 mil drop and having a high % no drop chance.

Not sure what to do about the difficulty setting, Id just love to make this game harder… and players 8 would be great for 2 or 3 friends playing the game through together.

I am for p/x, but against ploot. At lower levels I enjoy running with others, but at higher levels it is boring. Exceptionally boring - everything dies too quickly…

Some of us play HC and like to actually have an element of danger and find out exactly where the limits are.
Add p/x to non-ladder HC (and nerf poppables). The punishment for overestimating your build/abilities is having to start over, which is fair.

Multiple people can also run a higher p/count on a play-through, adding to the enjoyment/challenge.

yes. but why making d2 multiplayer then? i would never make mf runs together with mid gear (eni hoto etc), because it doesnt make any sense. so the only multiplayer experience is trading or baaling.
if you add p x, then everyone would only play hammerdin or light sorc, because the addicting game mechanics are about drops and every char which cannot beat p7, would transform into a fun char.
i would implement ploot with some changes. no dropbuff for hellgames. perhaps adding an additional difficulty level for scaling loot to the level of p7.

Don’t see how that would be the case, if it’s personal loot like think D3 had it then MF would affect what they got for themselves. So if they run around all naked then it wouldn’t give them much magic find outside of charms in inventory, you could also just increase magic find diminishing return point to be little higher than 200 so having just charms alone wouldn’t be enough to increase chances of good loot?

Basically if your own magic find determine the loot probabilities alone with personal loot, shouldn’t be much in terms of motivating factors to walking around and getting carried, especially if on same note what you kill or contribute with damage would impact the magic find with influence drop quality, assuming would be easy to implement such a thing.

In other words if personal loot worked same way as if Merc got kill his magic find determined drop quality, but with mobs maybe for players in multiplayer could be minimum % damage contribution for it to count your full personal magic find in for the loot. Then would be zero reason to be a passive player in multiplayer.

this is so awesome the idea , imagine you can play non-ladder with player-command so you have the option to play solo or in Group! Thumbs up
