Hello,
I’m sure others have suggested this already, but can we please get /players 8 in the online mode. This would prevent people from needing to join other peoples games who are trying to quest and running trav or whatever, and it also adds difficulty for people who enjoy to play more of the content solo (or just with a small group of friends).
I don’t think it would be game breaking, it just gives others a fair chance to compete without ruining other peoples leveling experience.
Thanks

I’m kind of on a mixed opinion regarding this.
On one hand - Having people join your games, doing the opposite of whatever you are doing is annoying and even weird at times as anyone joining definitely won’t talk in chat nor help/give waypoints. Additionally it can mess up the game if for example the farmer kills meph when you’re doing Act2.
The same is true from the farmer’s perspective: You have to search and join public games that seem populated in order to farm more efficiently, and sometimes whatever you’re farming might’ve already been cleared by another farmer, resulting in you having wasted your time.
Mixed opinion however as:
Implementing players8 would quickly inflate the economy as Lower Kurast runs become 10x as profitable, there no longer being any benefit to grouping up and farming different areas as well as there being a LOT more items/runes looted overall.
So yes: The farmers are annoying for pretty much everyone in every kind of game as they take up a spot, increase the difficulty, might brick your game progress and them being silent and weird. From the farmers PoV, public game P8 farming isn’t very enjoyable either as… it’s just shit to search for a fresh, highly populated game every time your run ends.
But at the same time, your “bad experience” firsthand might actually be preferrable over the market being overinflated.
Summary: D2 would probably benefit from loot changes, but it would also need a “loot sink” to compensate for it.

Well as for the inflation of the economy, I’m sure this will happen with time but also with botting which I’m sure is already happening behind closed doors. Implementing the /players 8 would also give people who play legitimately a better chance to compete vs someone running several bots in the same game to increase its count.
I just also like the idea of the player difficulty increasing, I play a lot on my own or just with 1-2 people, and I was clearing most of hell alone already. I just wanted to be able to continue playing alone but increase the challenge. Sure I could play single player, but I like the option of playing with others when I feel up to that.

I agree with you 100% on the difficulty part, as well as the botting part, and I’m also a solo player who likes both grinding alone and leeching pubgames for exp or at the start of ladder leeching pubgames because I’m weak.
My point about “Overinflation” was perhaps a bit short. I wanted to say that the “optimal start to a season” would basically become everyone rolling sorc, opening chests in Lower Kurast to gain a highrune every 100 or so games on repeat.
Additionally, farming meph would become about 30-40% more overpowered than it already is, making every other class other than sorc even more of a joke compared to before.
I 100% agree with the exception of those 2, + the increased speed of market inflation at the beginning of seasons.
Basically, i’d love players8 in the game, but for me to think that it’s a good idea in multiplayer, the game will need some sort of a loot sink and a couple area/spell rebalancings.
I would play online a lot more if it had /players and saveable maps. I just play SP usually. And when I do play online, 80% of the time it’s in a solo game because I’m not really bothered about playing with other people unless it’s for exp/initial ladder levelling/early ladder trading. In fact, I think I would probably never play with anybody other than one RL friend online if that was the case.
They just need to upgrade the lobby GUI, add filters for players in game. Completed quests, cow runs, baal runs… etc… this would solve most of the issues.
Funnily enough, it absolutely would
I think adding player count command to online will do more good than evil. Otherwise, I’m sure many players such as myself suffer from the same issue of not being able to play online. I only play on Bnet, because I enjoy RPG games with other people in a group environment. But grouping in D2R does not have the same benefit or fun. I create a game to play with others but all I get are randoms joining and doing other things and there is nothing I can do. I want the increase MF by having a full party but it is next to impossible with the current set up.
Hoping for a fix to this game play issue. Taking the fun away from playing in groups and being rewarded for it.
Excuse me, you onliners already have many benefits like possibility to expand loot/xp by joining group games, possibility to trade, ladder-only runewords (not valid now but I’m pretty much sure that they will add something by the start of the ladder season) etc. etc. Now you demand /players x command to go even further. Who is greedy – Blizzard or you?

I’d like to see another gambling option where you trade in unique for a set value to gamble something entirely unique like a torch or anni.
Valuable items like shako or soj would have 10% chance to win the item, and trash uniques would get 1%. Something like that.
Id rather want a kick option to solve mfers crushing the games.
/player 8 will change rune values for sure and i dont like that.

What are you on about? I just play SP and ladder. But mostly SP. You don’t even know what you’re talking about lol.

Is there ladder already in D2R?
Nah, so I only play offline. Haven’t played online once in D2R.
But it is you who has just said:
And in case you play only SP, I really do not understand: why do you need /players x, if you already have it in singleplayer.
The most obvious and simplest solution to all of that would be to just allow TCP/IP again.
Everbody who wants to play sp but likes to hang out with someone from time to time could happily use players 8 and the market would not be affected → everyone happy
Cmon, what kind of market you’re talking about??? After ladder starts non-ladder market will go to hell.
I’m totally on for non-ladder games/severs having players X command while for ladder it might not be a good idea!!!
I’m also here playing online only because of no more LAN here, which is also a reason to go .
I personally also dont care about market on non ladder, but apperently there are a few who do.
But in the end it doesnt matter since tcp/ip would solve all the requests for players on bnet nevertheless since its just no longer needed there.
There are two problems that show up if you add /p command for online play
-
You disencourage multiplayer. Everyone would make their private runs, there would be no point in making a public run and waiting for others to join if you can solo and have more exp and full loot.
-
You increase the number of items found. If you have a pool of 8k players, you will have a total maximum number of drops equal to 1000 full games’ drops, if you enable /p8 for each of those 8k players you will get 8k full games’ drops. That is an increase of 8x times the items available in the current situation and that is not good for the game. Items must take quite a bit of time and efford to get. One of the incentives of playing diablo is the hard items are to get.
I would like to play solo games with full drops aswell, but i prefer to preserve the integrity of the game.

I would be happy if players 1 online were the same as players 3 on offline. just knock back the zero loot % and I will be happy.
I don’t like hijacking someone’s game to kill the summoner or something, but I also don’t like doing cows with 3-8 players and scrambling to grab a rune or base.
