Question regarding Pre-Expansion and 2.4

How are you dealing with the fact that Pre-Expansion and LoD are two different games that need different balance tweaks? Developing 2.4 based on LoD gameplay and applying the changes to pre-expansion makes no sense.

Pre-Expansion Ama for example is a really underwhelming char that has no pvp or pvm builds that can keep up with the other chars.
The only physical damage build that actually works well is ww barb, how are you trying to change that with a patch that is based on LoD?
Lightning sorc is unplayable at pvm and very niche at pvp in pre-expansion.
Bonespirit nec is already one of the best pvp chars available and will receive another buff?

There are alot more expamples like this where pre-expansion should be treated differently. I fear that 2.4 is only developed for LoD and applied to pre-expansion without thinking about it, creating more imbalance than ever.

So you want to play pre-lod diablo but want post-lod balance? I could argue that beats the purpose of playing non expansion in the first place.

They are developing 2.4 based on LoD gameplay and apply the changes to pre-expansion aswell. I think this is nonsense, as both gamemodes need different changes/tweaks. (I mentioned a few points in my initial post)

It’s like developing new rules for indoor soccer and applying them to outdoor soccer too without testing.

Pre-Expansion (1.14d) has nothing to do with the game that was pre-lod (1.06b). There have been so many changes since then, they have nothing in common anymore. I’m not asking the game to move backwards.

I just want them to test the impact of their changes on pre-expansion aswell or develop two versions of 2.4.

Take this planned change for example “Bone Spear and Bone Spirit receive improvements in their late-game scaling.”. It makes absolutely no sense to buff this skill at pre-expansion. Bonenec is already one of the best pvpers out there.

Alright, I didn’t know that. I agree they should leave pre-lod d2 as it is.

Don’t get me wrong, Pre-Expansion has many flaws and construction sites they could work on. They just have to do at it separately.

I really hope what you’re saying doesn’t actually happen. Like you say, they’re essentially two different games…

I’d like to think that the patch would only be applied to LoD, if they’re basing the changes off of that gameplay.

I dont care at all about this, i never want to play pre LoD ever, and as such i never gave this any thought.

Now that i am though, it does seem like a death nail for pre expansion gaming - balance will be massively askew. A good point well made.

Light sorc with infinity is one of the best farming builds in the game btw

At pre-expansion you got no infinity though. All lightning spells aside from static are completely useless in terms of damage at hell, that’s why we need different balancing than LoD.

(Very rare usage for charged bolt or TS for finishing an enemy that is ci/fi)
