Runeword leaf didn't work - what did I do wrong?

Hi community,

I bought a short staff with +2 to fireball and +2 to ice blast. It has two sockets and 50% more damage to undead. I have no evidence, but I am pretty sure the staff was grey.

When I inserted the runes Tir and then Ral, the staff didn’t get Leaf as runeword.
Instead it is now a “Mechanic’s short staff” with the old properties + 5-30 fire damage + 2 mana after kill.

In the mean time I farmed another Tir and Ral rune, but I wanted to know what I did wrong before wasting them again.
What was my error?

“Mechanics” is an affix on magical items that gives them sockets. You have indeed bought a magical staff instead of a normal quality one.

Then I must have overseen it.

I am currently Act 2 - do you recommend akara or dragomir staffs for normal?

Since Leaf will require lvl 19 to equip id go with an a2 staff but it honestly deas not really matter since you only want +fireball on it. Dont worry too mucht. The runeword is already extremely good by itself :slight_smile:

I don’t waste the money on staffs from the vendors that often, unless I want a lower res wand or something. You’ll find plenty of good stuff on the floor. If you can find one with +3 to blaze that’s op for a while.
