Well, the difference between us and speedrunners is skill. The worse your gear, the more skilled you have to be, in order to remain efficient at the game.
Summon necro without enigma should not be farming Travnical. The Skeletons don’t have the AI to burst down a council member.
You’re also watching content that’s been hand-picked by the youtubers to make their build look good. They’re not going to show you the run with stone skin + holy freeze pack that eats their character alive.
I get what you’re saying but it’s the fact that they take little dmg with that garbage gear. I watched a speedrun of a druid (can’t remember which youtuber it belonged to as I randomly select vids to watch), with rubbish gear on (not 1 unique or runeword) get trapped and hit by a champion pack multiple times, he was hit about 4-5 times and was barely scratched without any attacks with that miss marker appearing, then he escaped and killed the champion pack with ease and to top it off he was in river of flame Act 4 on hell difficulty. I’m sorry but no way should he have survived that especially given the fact he was a druid who has low FHR. Also he was only lvl 58, wtf.
I do agree that there are some people who do rely on skill when speedrunning, no doubt about it but some don’t use skill and yet come out unharmed against mobs that should lvl and power wise wreck them.
My point is that the gear I have on doesn’t seem to count for anything if people are speedrunning classes naked and yet clearing the game fast low levelled and unprepared compared to someone like myself who, levels up, farms for enough gear to give me an edge and still fails all the same. I practiced with a sorc (who is becoming my fav class even though barb was my fav in the original games’ release) and even though I teleport a lot and fire spells, it still takes me longer to kill mobs compared with speedrunners even though as mentoned above that I’m over-levelled and geared enough for it.
Sorry if it sounds like I’m complaining (and I know people in the forum don’t like that so I do apologise) but it just makes no sense to me and it’s kinda sad due to this being one of my fav games that I’ve played (used to play upon OG release).
The first class I ever beat D2 LOD with was a 2 handed maul Barb and I never struggled as bad as then. I played even the newer patches (up to 1.14D) and never struggled this badly. I just don’t know what I’m doing wrong is all.
Don`t feed the TROLL LMAO, he hasn’t posted much, I guess he loves spending his money. would love to see his toon with all the end gear items on it buhahahaaa
Nice. I too just found my first Sur rune and Ist rune doing LK runs. I tried out a Poison Nova Necro build as my Skeleton Necro was struggling to kill the Act Council. I got the Poison Nova Necro to hell act 3 and he was able to beat them with little difficulty. Act 4 sadly though, Poison does near enough nothing, even with trag set gloves and belt and with the lower resist curse at 51%. I do like it still, had fun with it, which is what I wanted from class builds, to have fun, do content with and not be the same old build.
I went for a full Blizzard sorc and was farming LK and doing the odd Cow level runs. The most valuable items I have found so far is - Sur rune, Ist rune and Aldurs boots from LK after just nearing run 544 with 368 mf ( I have surprisingly kept count).
For Cows I have found - Gheeds fortune, Mal rune, x2 Pul runes, Trag gloves and Belt (Gave to my Poison Nova Necro), Wizardspike and Shako. The Cow runs though, I am at run 891 with 368 mf.
My best find for myself is when my Poison Necro killed the Council (hell difficulty) they dropped my first ever (and probably last) Stone of Jordan. I’ve heard this is very rare and very valuable, even though I’ve played this game since original was released (before LOD for that matter) I’ve never had this ring, never researched it until now. I now know that it’s used for spawning Uber Diablo and occasionally for Lightning Sorc. This has given me a that little push that I’ve needed since it’s release just to say that I’m not doing all of this for nothing.
thanks mate. I’m considering turning to that side but won’t until I know I have made it on my own.
Btw, I’ve looked up runewords for Sur runes and not sure if any of them besides Dragon are worth doing, what are your thoughts on this?
Lastly, I have a question about energy shield. I maxed out telekinesis and energy shield just to see how good energy shield is. I went into a cow P1 game and my mana stayed the same and my health was taking a beating. Is this correct or is there much more to it as I though energy shield was supposed to make dmg taken go to mana, yet 0 dmg was going to mana?
You need more mana to life, on the you tube videos they dont add any to life and it all goes into just mana, i dont do it this way as i prefer some to go into life, i would say i have 1/3 in life and the rest in mana, with just enough stats in DEX and Strengh to use the spirit. This is including the anni/torch
I maxxed out telekon and the next lvl i will get energy shield up 1 more, your resistances need to be at 75% as this has a major impact on your survivability, but full tals just about gives you this
I’ve decided to step away from this game for a while now. Here’s why:
I’m playing offline solo and I’ve got unlimited respecs for my characters and no matter what build I choose, what items I have on (which are enough to be a min budget build), what Player command I have active even at P1, I cannot farm any area efficiently even with all of Tals set (except for armour) at P1 on Hell due to dying too quickly/ being overrun before I can blink to teleport or run away. No matter what build my sorc goes with even when I change it there and then, the elite matches the exact element/s that I use even if I dual element them. If I’m playing as HydraOrb for example, ALL not the odd one or two elites, are matching the immunity to fire and cold. Same if I do Lightning and cold or fire they match it all the time without fail.
The biggest kicker for me is my FOH Paladin. He has max res and block (with fire and lightning absorb with 10% extra res) and he still cannot handle CS and the act 3 Council. That makes no sense to me and the stress it’s causing my brain is beyond anything a game has done in terms of mind ****ing. I’ve tried my hardest with this game to be patient, bite my lip and do what I can but this is going too far. It’s not the fact that I’m not getting anything to boost 1 character to that standard for farming content but the fact I have more than enough to do at least 1 area and yet I seem to continuously die and get nothing for doing all the struggling I’ve been doing.
I’d like to thank all for the advice you’ve given me but I cannot take any of my characters further than completing the game in hell mode. Shame.
Special thanks to MickeyETC for all the tips, offers and guides, but I can’t do anything anymore solo and my goal was to be able to have a completed (near completed at minimum) character and yet I can’t even get near completed. I might take your offer when I return but I need to have a breather from this game.
I mainly play solo and I can tell that you’re struggling with some mechanics. Perhaps the issue is complex like the Travincal requiring both skill checks (player based movement and skill applications) and gear checks (max resist and elemental absorb gear). But the more exasperating issue can be getting that gear and runes to drop.
I understand immunities can be hard to break but with a Blizzard Sorc you can still use teleport near the enemy, let your merc get a stab in and then teleporr back. You can also weaken the enemy before hand by using static field. This is something streamers often miss when trying to explain certain builds (focusing on strengths and seemingly downplaying weaknesses). Some immunities are worth running away from as well. The best thing to do if you don’t want to run is start a new game.
Lastly, runes aren’t as hard to get as you’ll think. Yes, it requires a ton of investment solo but once you get comfortable with a build that can kill tons of enemies in any zones, it becomes easier to find what you are looking for. Some streamers hate chests but I’ve found clearing entire areas dense with enemies as well as popping chests can lead to getting the specific runes I’m looking for. I was able to craft a ton of runewords without needing to obsessively rely on what is considered meta. In solo, you’ll only need certain runewords to make one character succeed so using at least two characters to clear zones efficiently will net you enough to satsify your needs. Come back when you’re ready to crush entire areas without feeling like there is one way to do it all.
It’s what most do. I started playing when the original game arrived with breaks which could last 2-3 years. Yet I still loved it when I started playing again. Same now with resurrected. Played for months, am now on a break. Will return when I want to play again. Diablo 3 I played for a year, got to 110 ish rift and burned out which last till today.
Enjoy your break!
