Seriously what am I missing?

I have been playing this game since its release and I’m getting a bit of a mind **** every time and it’s making me hate this amazing game. Hear me out on this as I’m trying not to be hypocritical about it. Keep in mind I run Solo not Online.

I have levelled every character at least past lvl 75. I have got gear way better (not endgame but more than enough to clear hell with but struggles in lvl 85 areas) than youtube speed run streamers yet I’m struggling badly against certain mobs and its not due to immunities (for once). For example I can go toe to toe with hell Diablo with my Zealot and waste him in seconds, however, if I go against any council member 1 hit lowers me to near death. I have max block and max res with holy shield active. Mr Llama (who I do like btw so not hating on him) goes in pretty much naked and with bugger all res and block rate and survives multiple hits without a potion needed, wtf?

This isn’t just with my Paladin its with my other classes as well. I’ve tried everything from making them tanks to making them glass cannons and still exact same result.

I do use an Act 2 merc (holy freeze) who have on minimum:
Tal helm, Insight and Treachery.
Maximum:
Reapers Toll (eth), Dureals shell (eth) and Tal helm.
I cannot get an infinity.

As for gear farming, I can farm cows and LK with my Sorc on hell with +300% mf but have yet to get any runes higher than a Mal rune. This is since Nov 2021 when my Sorc cleared hell difficulty. Is my luck with Rng really this bad that I cannot get higher than a Mal rune after months of farming?

I’m not trying to say I should get everything I want to drop but being stuck in the same position, gear and power wise with all my toons is a joke that’s gone too far for me. I do expect a challenge but at least one that rewards you hear and there not months later. D3 may have been too drop friendly for my taste as it wasn’t exactly challenging but at least it dropped something for the journey.

I do still like this game and I won’t go back to D3 (and I will play D4 on release) but something about this games’ Rng mechanic feels slightly off compared to multiple other games that require farming items continuously like this game does.

The paragraph above is just my opinion, please don’t start a argument over it as I know the D2 boards have a lot of aggressive people in it.

All I want is a bit of advice for what to do as I feel like 9 - 10 months (pretty much everyday) of farming hell has been for nothing.

how many games per hour do you do?

got my 2nd Soj the other day from an unlikely boss (Duriel)
I hit 422 mf and face tank all the mobs, its only travi thats a bit harder and if i need to do them i use my other sorc.

Getting your toons to 85++ also helps alot with easily doing the mobs. When you hit the 90s then the game is easy on all areas

This is a grind game and you just need to play it as that. countless countess runs will eventually give you El to Ist Runes (and Gul to Lo) if you kill all the mobs on the way down, i got my first mal from one of the mobs and my 2nd from baals 2nd wave at the last act

Just dropped a JaH rune running to baal

Thanks for the reply. I currently have tried Worldstone area but I keep getting those little exploding buggers that wipe me out faster than the other mobs and I do try to teleport away but there are too many in the screen and my merc 1 shots them killing me in the process. Their return dmg after they die is stupidly high even for hell.

I have lack of dmg due to multiple immunities making my blizzard build useless. If I use a dual element my dmg does very little to everything. I don’t know what to do anymore as I farm continuously and don’t get even a rare to surpass what I have on.

I am able to do a a lot of cow level farming within an hour but because I can’t have it on a players command whilst doing it makes farming a waste. From what I’ve gathered looking into vids and forums online, I need the Players command on minimum of 3 but as high as possible in order for the drop count to be increased. If this is true then I’m buggered, I can’t go any further at this stage.

My sorc and Paladin are my strongest toons but they still struggle on hell. All the build vids and guides online all pretty much assume I have my characters built like a god, it’s stupid when people online seem to think you have everything godlike to farm places.

Btw, nice Jah rune in the vid, congrats. Is there a Sorc build that is budget that you’d recommend? I’ve looked online and the gear I need for those builds are out of reach for me.

Yes, i have posted a really cheap Sorc Video on a few threads on here

The highest/most expensive part is tals armor then the amulet

A Full tals sorc using fireball/hydras is moderately cheap to make and you really don’t need to get your merc an infinity although it helps a bit (insight is just as useful)

Does the -15% enemy fire res break fire immunities?

Yes, but there are a few it don’t do it too. but your merc usually takes them out easily

Heres the build, i changed it to use energy shield/telekon to make her tanky

Thank you. Appreciate your help. I’ll try it out later and get back to ya afterwards.

no problem

i updated the url as it was a different build and used the new runeword in the helm which you wont get till ladder closes

Just found mal in baals throne, I nearly missed it as it was in the corner lmao

My setup for doing all bosses in game inc keys/essences along the way

I tried the build out mate and I found killing cows very easy except for the fire immunes that were there which funnily enough was all the elite packs including the cow king.

I also tested it on fire immunes and I wasn’t even scratching them unfortunately but I am missing 1 piece of Tal’s set (the body armour).

I’ll try the worldstone keep later when I’m stronger. The only reason I beat hell was via teleporting past things that were elemental immune (against my Fireball/orb build) and then leading the minions (Baal ones that stun you) away so I could enter and finish off Baal which took 5 mins against him.

If you wanted to make an online toon, ill be able to kit you out with tals, prob the armour will take a bit of a trade but already kitted out 2 people off here with tals and they love it.

I’ve found most parts of tals since this post went live, if you want all the gear then make an online toon and you can have it free of charge, ill boost you or my klan/friends can do anytime

Consider using FOH, it hits much harder because of aoe. Also put on dwarf star (ring), and (if that’s still not enough) put on second dwarf star + infernostride (boots) . You can increase survivability even further by using Rising sun amulet. Basically most damage going from counsil members is fire damage. With fire absorb items you’ll be able to heal from hydras.

The part you’re missing is that Diablo doesn’t balance monster difficulty the same way as other games.

The act bosses, Diablo, Baal are balanced such that every build is able to kill them, meaning they have no immunities, and aren’t super dangerous.

However, the random elite mobs, they can spawn with whatever mods they want, and are often the strongest monsters in the game.

Level 75 is still mid game. 85 is roughly where the levelling slows down. Single player is the longest version of the game. Just take it slow, especially around the more dangerous packs and travnical. The Trav council can sometimes still wipe the floor with my level 93 paladin if they spawn the right mix of bonuses.

Level 85 is when your more balanced to the other mobs around you and the game becomes easy (well it does to my sorc)

Thx for the response. My Paladin is lvl 89 and if I use FOH it doesn’t even scratch enemies no matter what I try. I use holy bolt as it seems to do alot of dmg and costs near to 0 mana for me to use whilst FOH drains it too fast even with Insight/Meditation aura. I use redemption but have to kill things first and even then it doesn’t help FOH.

I have been using the following builds with each class:

Amazon - Bowazon (Ice and Fire) too fragile.
Assassin - Trapsin She is quite squishy and dies very fast with one miss-step.
Necromancer - Summoner Using only CG and Skeletons with CE but struggle with the Council in act 3 hell as they do small amounts of dmg to them and the council heal each other too quickly. I got 1 down to 1/4 health left and even though he was separated from the other members, they healed him to full.
Barbarian - Frenzy barb (with beazerk for immunes) wielding Oath and Lawbringer still struggles with 95% chance to hit and barely does dmg to champions and bosses, I’ve seen playthroughs do more dmg with rubbish lower tier rares/runeword weapons.
Paladin - Holy Bolt this is my strongest class as it stands due to his high dmg and survivability. His gear is mediocre but is able to do more than my most geared class.
Sorc - Hydra/Orb This is my most geared class, with all but 1 piece of Tal’s set equipped. She can farm some places very easily but only on P1 which with MF is gonna count for nothing. I would have though P3 at least would be her limit but not being able to even do that in any farmable area, damn.
Druid - Summoner I tried this when 2.4 was released and so far I like him but the dmg dropped of heavily when going to Act 5 NM.

I have been told that a summon necro should be the easiest (even though slow) class to beat all content with (even if naked), yet I’m struggling with him, even though he has some decent gear on.

Btw, I do have those items but as mentioned above, FOH does minimal to no dmg whatsoever without being fully geared. I tried using all combos in CS but it did nothing, so I tried holy bolt on it’s own and it wrecks them (except for the venom lords who have more health).

I don’t want people thinking that I’m a moaner who wants everything on that silver plate but I am getting a bit annoyed that a game I played since it’s release years and years ago, has changed this much that I cannot seem to go any further with it.

Just a side note even though it hasn’t happened in this topic (Yet) but has in a few others that I’ve observed.
*I can take criticism and also welcome it but what I hate is when the pro players come online and say it’s all easy and assume that every other player who needs help has every item at their disposal (like Enigma and Infinity which seems to be the only items people use for endgame builds which is a little sad given how many other options there are). Just my opinion.

the loot is bugged in this game, that’s why lot of players can not progress.

Look who’s back!?
The old troll crawled hungry from under the bridge.
Too bad that it’s the same old nonsense.
If you are unfamiliar with Danutz…just ignore him.

I don’t think it’s bugged exactly. What gets me is when the pro players assume you have at least 1 of every item in the game, which is impossible given how much stash space there is. Also, I do understand RNG is considered a coin toss, meaning you’ll win and get something or you won’t. However, this game does often feel like more loses than wins as far as those coin tosses go, if you know what I mean. Again, that’s every game that requires gear farming, which is why I do understand, it’s just annoying how much time you give to end up with nothing and as we’re nearing a year since it’s release, I am fairly disappointed with what drops this games given me so far.

I would like to point out as well that the dmg and survivability mechanics of this game feel slightly bugged though if I’m honest. I say this as per what I’ve put in my first comment. I find it hard to believe speedrunners with absolute garbage gear can breeze through hell, low levelled might I add and survive, whilst my characters have quite good gear on and yet struggle, whilst most of them get 1 hit killed by a monster. Makes 0 sense to me.

For example - My res are max and block chance maxed. I have smoke armour, the G-face helm, life and + skills rings, same with amulet. I have wizardspike and spirit shield and FCR gloves with +life. My charms are also + life with and few +MF. My Paladin can kill monsters quite quickly if in right position but 1 miss-step and he’s a corpse faster than I can blink.
I watch MF build set ups and think just how the hell are they dealing so much dmg as a melee with such rubbish gear like a PB with x6 Ist runes in them. My Barb has Oath and Lawbringer (both in PB) with Smoke armour and G-face helm with Immortal kings belt, boots and gloves and I barely scratch a champion pack in hell P1 yet these MF builds nearly 2 shot a council member in hell P8, wtf?
