So today we started Act 5 together. My mate was lvl 25 and me 23.
Now we just killed Nille and he is 28 and I am still 23.
We were always together and he did the most damage killing everything.
But that shouldn’t matter?
Yesterday everything worked fine.
Sometimes you need to be a certain lvl to get the ‘most optimal’ xp gain. That could also be the case here.

I’ve noticed something strange about xp in this game. My significant other and I literally create characters together and have been side by side for our duration of gameplay.
However, they’re 2 levels higher than me. I thought shared xp might not be working correctly, but then again this game is over 20 years old and I couldn’t remember if shared xp existed back then. 
If you are not the damagedealer you will not be the one killing the Packs. The “killer” gets more then the leacher on the same level.
Exp sharing becomes effective at lvl 24 for the leacher when the “killer” is 24 or higher
It’s not broken. Under level 25 you get almost no xp in act 5.
So you need to do tomb or chaos runs until 25 then the exp is fine in act 5

Usually you do Tomb Runs until lvl20, then Cows up to 24, then ancients which will give you a lvl up, and then you are ready for Baal Runs.
While this is true, I played with a friend from level 20 to 23, until we realised he had gained 6 more levels than me during the time frame. Then I got like a level per zone playing solo. He wasn’t THAT much higher than me. I just gained 3 levels from the start of Act 3 until the end of it.
The lower level exp share is busted.
Me and my partner have the same issue. Everything was fine the first day and then suddenly there’s a 5lvl difference while doing everything side by side.
We just got to act5, he leveled alone to catch up a bit. Now he’s lvl26 and I’m 29 and he just doesnt get any experience at all.
