Slow load times?

Is it just me or does it take forever to load a game? I mean my pc can load rdr 2 pretty fast but loading d2 seems to take forever (in comparison how complex each game is).

I have this issue too. I’ve been running doing pindle runs and it takes 16 seconds to go from clicking play to being visible in game. I have a nice MSI laptop with nvidia card and 9th gen i7. there’s no reason it should take that long. on OG d2 it takes 2 seconds tops

Measured on my system, starting the game 18-19 seconds, loading from the lobby of cities 1 and 2 acts 10-11 seconds (online) 7 seconds (offline), going through the portals 1 second on average, often it happens instantly. I am completely satisfied with the result. The configuration is i5 8400, ram16gb, 1060 3gb, the operating system and the game are on SSD (SATA).

Are you on the Server with the smallest ping? For me Logging into US servers take much more times than EU (where I am).

Also is the game on an SSD?

There are reasons, the game has a new modern graphics engine, it uses incomparably more ram and video memory, the remaster physically cannot load as quickly as the original.

The coding is really inefficient I’m sure as it’s gotta be runtime issues. They need to optimise it significantly.

An average mf game where you kill a single boss and leave takes maybe 2 minutes. Stuff like Meph or Andy or Diablo (nm) . Having to load a game and load a waypoint takes maybe 5 seconds. that’s 10 seconds of a 120 seconds runs. that means you’re spending almost 10% of your total playtime in loading screens. It needs to be faster for the game to be fun !

Give us options like “launch with old/new graphics only” or “always keep act towns loaded in memory” to speed up things.

The loadings can’t stay this long. I’m on a decent computer with 32 GB RAM and SSD. Shouldnt be too hard to optimize.

EDIT : I timed 60 hell meph runs. my average is 1:45 min. I have about 45 seconds of " dead time " from the moment i click play to the moment i click play for the next game again.

tricks i learned :

  1. it’s actually faster to log out in act 3 than take the portal to act 4. You have to walk from meshif, but it’s faster than loading act 4, loading exit game ( yes you have to load when you leave game ) and then load act 4 on the new game, then waypoint to durance ( another loading screen)

  2. If you do a lobby game instead of the “play” button, you skip the whole “exit game” loading screen, saving you a good 5-8 seconds. Why does this mode have an extra loading and not the lobby ??

because its unoptimized and rushed. what do you expect

Same here, the worst thing is that the Game when you tp somewhere actually starts before you get the screen up and running, sometime my Merc has killed 5-10 mobs before i can take action. That is not acceptable. Would not like to play HC and die due to loading screens are to slow.

Yes the loading screen takes long time, i got that too and my PC is REALLY not on the edge.

If you switch to diablo 2 legacy before loading another scene its much faster.

I died several time already at wp for eldritch, because I got killed by archer skeletons while not being able to move due to loading screen of death.
Joining baalrun… As I enter the game, people are emptying throne already…

I agree with your comments. We should be able to have the option to preload certain locations. I log in faster to other much more modern and demanding games on my MSI Dominator laptop. I moved all game files to my primary SSD. I am not sure if NVMe drive would make any difference.
Getting killed while using WP or Portal is unacceptable. It is impossible now in certain cases to retrieve your corps if you die close to your tp/or entrance even with 110 FCR - game does not load fast enough for you to react - mobs are already going to town with your sorc while you see loading screen.

either preload some areas, or only load the areas you need when using the waypoint instead of generating the whole act.

or options to disable the old or the new graphics… just something. because it’s so slow…
and it’s gotten worse with 1.02.

yeah loading is still slow even on nvme disk…

i can get to anya(pindle) portal… before i get to see anything… they said they “fixed” this for launch compared to beta but they clearly have not…

and even if they fix that issue… we still need instant loading like D2 legacy… Blizzard have to look into this issue as its a really big issue

Hello everyone,

I would like to ask around, if you experience long loading/waiting times while entering portals and changing waypoints sometimes ending up dead after the loading screen disappears? Despite the fact that you have the minimum system requirements.

I hear from many that these screen loading times take too long in D2R, what are your thoughts?

Yes this. I dont understand why this wasnt included right away. And i want light graphics for the lobby as well. My laptop has as much difficulties running the lobby as the game. Thats just insane and totally unneeded.

The peeps that keep saying “unoptimized” have no idea what they’re talking about. They compare Resurrected’s load times to original D2’s load time which is pointless. The latter one is 20 years old. It’s simple math. 800x600 = 480k pixels. 1920x1080 = 2m pixels. 4 times more. On 4k? 8m, 16 times more.

What do you expect, really? You can’t load 16 times bigger assets under the same time. There’s no magic involved. D2 was also slow back in the day, especially when it loaded crap from the CD-ROM as well. You just forgot those days. But that’s not “lack of optimization”, it’s just your bad memory. D2 did not get faster. The computers released since then did.

If you want D2R to load faster, get yourself a B550 board and a Samsung 980 Pro for a proper PCI-E 4 experience, and load times will be between 1-2 seconds. There’s no other way. Well maybe you could try some kind of ramdisk software to dynamically load parts of the game in RAM, maybe.
