I think we can all agree D2 LoD and D2R are great games with plenty to offer… however.
How many resources would it take to remake Diablo I? Think about it, you can use many of the textures from Act I and craft some new mobs, maybe adjust some skills.
There is something about the foreboding haunting music of Tristram, knowing from D2 that even if you win, you lose and yet you push on. People say the storyline from DarkSouls is depressing but Diablo is a true masterpiece of human struggle. The villagers maintain hope despite knowing they waited too late to get out and now they cannot. Evil lurks in the shadows beyond the borders of light at the edge of town.
Lets get a Diablo remake going Blizzard and borrow a lot from D2R to cut down on production costs. I’d pay another 40 for it.
thing is also that the replay value of D1 is not very good.
Yes it was the great game, but now you would just get triggered by the movement already lol
Just some waiting time. We started the age of real AI. Within the next 10 years we’ll have AI systems that can analyze new and old games, their contents, NPCs, interaction and possibilities and rewrite/reorganize equal function on another technology base.
Making 4k pics from 320p that seemed impossible thinking in pixel resizing… was made possible within few months of AI. On the fact that AI is creating its own evolution and makes its creators unable to understand its complete functioning within short period of times…
your “D1 resurrected” will be 1 click away in the next years. Just offered as service like resizing a picture in authentic way via AI.
And btw AI will create landscapes in seconds in the future. Where now hundreds of people are involved over months for some map areas.
If world policy keeps the real world alive and uncontrolled AI doesn’t get uncontrolled access to “defense systems”, gaming will be like another dimension. I’d bet it takes max. 5 years until you can create your own D1-clone or mixed D1/2 by a few clicks. At a service that offers you AI remaking until you deserve the outcome.
And you are encouraging this? Because your statement basically is “lets reuse assets in a completely half-ass effort, patch together some weird abomination, I will gladly pay 40$ for that”.
I think Diablo 1 has a lot potential for a remake with its own aspekt like the theme of having one dungeon in which you crawl deeper and deeper, slower pace, differnt quests between playthroughs and how every class can lern spells.
Of course lets not forget the legendary first meeting with the butcher.
