My aim for the start of ladder is to build a sorc that will quickly and effectively kill stuff → . I was doing some testing with hybrid builds revolving around frozen orb (so orb+lightning, orb+ wall, orb+nova…) and unfortunatelly I came to the conclusion that it does not kill stuff quickly enough, even with better gear. Infinity is out of question, of course, and if I had money for an infinity, I would get enigma instead and build different char.
So I will be going good old Blizz Sorc. Yes, I will not be able to farm quite the number of spots due to immunities, but the areas you can farm - I will wreck everything. The question, however, is… When do I switch to blizzard? When do I respec? From my experience, Orb+fireball works very well in simply progressing through the game and maybe even completing hell difficulty. But… should I switch earlier than that? Like… After nightmare, around lvl 70? What do you guys think?
BTW, I have NEVER played blizz sorc, I have seen many guides and to be honest - blizz is a very straight forward skill. But the question for you is - what do you recommend farming in the beginning? I was planning farming meph/andy for first the first couple of days to get basic, but good nonetheless stuff, then advance to ancient tunnels and - my favourite - cows. What do you guys plan to do?

Just blast through norm/nm with fire sorc with leaf or any + fire skills weapon, respec on hell, farm typical cold sorc spots.
have you tryed hydra? it got buffed. imo finish game then respec to pure bliz. are you softcore or hc?, i really dont understand why people dont all spec for block. i tryed a few sorc all hc. and even thoe the hp is abit lower, the EHP is way higher. and you dont sac any damage in D2 in atributes. as a pure HC player, my conclution is that the only difference in sorc builds are if you use stormshield or spirit, and maby 1 point into chilling armor.

I do not like the playstyle of hydra - what is more, it seems to be amazing against bosses, but mediocre at best in other scenarios. I am softcore, BTW.
Regarding your point about block - with spirit in a monarch you have to invest a ridiculous amount of stats into dexterity in order to have good block, right? I do exactly the same as other folks, I go for enought strength for monarch and all remaining points into vita (in the beginning, however, I like spending some points into energy due to low early mana pool).

You dont. I start every sorc as blizzard and its best. You just keep leveling up ice blast and you one shot most of mobs with one hit, free attributes add 50/50 into energy and vitality. If you dont want to waste respec ignore energy but you will have to drink a lot of mana potions. Tir runes in equip and sapphires in equip helps.
You just progress into blizzard build at 24.
I honestly dont stay as blizzard tho, i simply like frozen orb es build better so i switch to that at 40 or even 30 ad orb deal with baalruns better on normal than blizzard.
Honestly dont listen people suggesting fire builds, it sucks for baalruns and you will struggle on NM.
oh I love frozen orb as well, though for farming on hell it is IMO lackluster. It is, however, the king of hybrid builds. That is why I wanted to go with fireball until 30, then invest all into orb (and some into cold mastery) and, once maxed out, come back to fireball and just kill nightmare with it. After nightmare, with around level 70, I wanted to switch to blizzard.
Farming on hell is excelent with orb sorb, Andy meph ancient tunnels/arachnid lair. You dont need abything more.
Nah, my 20FO, 15Cmastery, 20Fball, 20Fmastery, 20Fbolt sorc rocks every area in the game with no problems in only mediocre gear. Chaos sanctuary ‘seal popping’ is my personal go to.
I mean, it’s not going to solo p8, but it’s perfectly fine for p1.
