Hi folks, I have started offline character and curious if Spirit rune world works offline too? I have never played ladder (not even 20 years ago) so not sure how this stuff works.

No. Back in the old days, some items and runewords were strictly available during ladder(similar to d3 season). When marketing D2res they announced that all the items and runewords that were available only when playing ladder will also be available for offline and non-ladder play.

At the moment, this has no relevance. All runewords, regardless of ladder only or not, work in Multiplayer. They implemented those for D2R. The “ladder only” status only applies to the origianl D2. And they also work in SP-mode.
That said, ladder-runewords always worked in offline-mode. (aka non-server-characters for the original game.)
Thank you very much for the explanation! Would you personally recommend online or offline character? I’m in 5th act normal difficulty at the moment, but not sure if it makes sense to continue.
I don’t play with other online players and don’t care PvP either, just couple of hours here and there, kinda nostalgia.
And sorry for lame questions, I had GPRS in 2000, so didn’t had a chance to try all this online goodness
If the trading aspect of the game doesn’t incite you, I would play offline on /player 8. If you enjoy the haggling, hunting for deals and finding items for your builds fast, than I would recommend online.
