Still impossible to play alone offline on hell difficulty

Hello there,

i played this game 20 years ago ( Patch 1.09d ) with the “Players 8” Function and offline.
It was fun to play. Then there came the Patch 1.10 that changed everythng. Every kind of monster can approach everywhere. That was simply annoying if playing offline. In addition the enemys resists were grown up and i lost fun playing the game.

And now in the Resurrected-Version it is the same annoying thing. My Sorceress with Ice-Magic got killed in a blink of an eye on difficulty hard. Even all enemys have Cold-Resist an I can’t make any damage to them. In the old game I could make damage, it was low but there was a chance to make some. Of course the battles take a long time but i had the chance to win it. And now it is impossible. the enemy resists are so damn high and there damage is extremely raised up that i can’t make any move.

Why is there not a possibility to change the patch or game in offline mode now?

I am over 40 years old and i don’t want to play online with other guys anymore. I just want to play the game offline for my own.
Some might say I need better equip, but i can’t found better equip on nightmare. i need to play on hell but with the actual patch/kind of the game it doesn’t make any fun. it is so damn frustrating.

Please Blizzard, make changes that we “old Gamers” (who finally made you that what you are today) can play for our own. We are not the “always online”-generation. We just played offline or in private LAN-partys where we had to move our complete gaming equip.

If i understand, you find the game too hard, even in Player1, and ask Blizzard to make it easier ? I’m an old player too, not “always online”, don’t play every day and consider myself as a casual player… but with my sorceress i have no issue in hell…
yes, resistances are a problem, but if there was no challenge where would be the pleasure ? i like the challenge, and here it’s not really a big one… just something that give more interest to the game.
If you are an “old player”, you should know that maxing only one source of damage (frost) expose you to great difficulties with immune monsters. It’s not new, and there’s a lot of easy ways to counter it. Why don’t you just play bi elements, and complete it with a good mercenary ? It’s fairly easy to do…

I am also an older player and find they have already made the game so much easier than it used to be.
I would prefer they made it harder.

My advice. Stick to NM Boss runs and gradually increase your MF and P-count. You can also easily grind Baal to level 70 - he can also drop nice things like shako if you’re lucky.

Dual element dude. There is almost no way a sorc can play her way through solo hell with one element.

My personal favourite is orb+fireball, but there are a bunch of other combos you can use (more so once 2.4 hits!). Check out some builds online and (sorry, but) please stop asking for the game to be made easier because you have pigeon holed yourself into a non viable build.

I saw in another post you said you have no difficulty mining all the MF areas with your Frozen Orb Sorceress. How do you manage The Pit and all the “cold” areas in act 5 like Crystalline Passage, Nihlathak’s Temple, The Ancients Way etc? Because my Sorceress can’t even with a souped up mercenary.

then i kill boses (but depends on what order i decide)
Andariel, Countess, Meph, Diablo and then baal

My merc uses an eth CV and takes out the cold immunes that I cant with a fort armor (1962 def)

I stopped doing Nihlak now as I cant be arsed with him, I’ve got all the torches and some

in the “old” D2 (patch 1.09d) there was no problem running a sorc with one source. but today it is impossible and that is the point i meant. and i could run nightmare “cold immune”-areas without big problems in the old game, because my frozen orb was mighty enough.

Those things have changed long ago, 1.09 was a very different gameplay those days. No immunities, but nearly no skill synergies either. The game has changed for the better with 1.10 and later.

For Sorc, either go low-invest dual elements, Frozen Orb or Firewall are skills that can work on another elements build without much further invest. Or rely on your Merc. Or team up with someone. Or skip areas/foes you can’t beat, Sorc can teleport and dodge anything she wants to dodge. Many possible solutions.

rush to act 2 and do ancient tunnel runs
there you can find tal mask and 4os non elite polearm for your merc. perhabs a lem for trecheary or duriels and you can level up really fast to ~85
then the game is open for you to do mf runs.
with this equipment you can do trav and ancients. without merc, you wont be able to go further than act 3 travincal.
perhaps you could do travincal with your respects if you save the hell respec, but this is a great pain in the ass.

if you can handle monotony, make p8 lower kurast runs. i did ~5000 runs there with a 6 chest map and found 4 surs, so i turned my crap gear sorc into a crap gear light sorc with infinity and can roll all content.

2 Changes I didn’t like was the immunities and the random enemies in Act 5 areas. I liked the monster types there and iirc for difficulty increase they made it random or randomish in terms of the enemies faced in Act 5. Never liked that change. Make those same monsters Act 5 monsters more difficult or have unique Act 5 modifiers or something imo but that’s how it is so I work with it and still have fun.

Also not a big fan of the immunities changes. Really high resists to an element is fine but the immunities thing was always annoying or inconvenient in the sense that if you went all in, you basically just skip certain areas. IIRC unless that changed, makes the hammerdin and bone necros magic based skills the easiest as they seem to have the lowest number of immune mobs.

Barbarians have a pretty straightforward solution in Berserk at least when its physical immune…rarely a mob thats phys and magic immune. Not an ideal skill with its caveat but part of the challenge.

Still loving the game and glad it got a make over and Ill keep playing the classes and builds I like but if I could some how change those 2 features I would or make it toggleable or something…idk the right solution there, if any.

Would kind of like to see what we have in D3 though with the cube. As someone who played when D2 was current, its not a HUGE deal having to go to a website to see the Cube recipes or runewords but it would be nice to find it in game instead!

FO is still mighty enough to farm everything that is not cold immune with little to no synergy. Fireball/wall can do nearly all the rest. The rare cold+fire immunes will need to be done by your static and merc or just skipped with your teleport. There’s a bunch of options open to you.

I personally max ice bolt then frozen orb/cold mastery - this will take you through the majority of normal and nm.
Then once cold immunes start showing up I respec to:
Forb 20. Cold mastery 15. Fireball 20. 1 in warmth, tele and static field, then the rest into fire mastery and then firebolt.

This build can solo every area in the game once you farm decent gear and I’m sure there are more efficient ways to go about it.

1.09 … omg du bist echt einfach nur in der Zeit stehen geblieben, Alter … :rofl: 1.09 ist bereits Ewigkeiten her, das ist kein Vergleich mit 1.10 und später, sowie auch dem heutigen Stand.

Komm du erst mal aus der Vergangenheit endlich in der Gegenwart an und dann diskutieren wir mit dir weiter, du altbackenes Ur-Fossil … :rofl:

If you play in Singleplayer, I would highly recommend to check the D2R Modding community, specifically the modding with the “new” D2RMM. You can change (almost) whatever you like, and adapt the game to your taste.

To name a few possibilities, you can increase exp ratio (cause game it’s not designed to play alone), add or modify recipes for cube (easier things, you can larzuk items in cube), change loot ratio, remove immunes (they will cap at 90 res), add or modify items, change some item names when in ground, etc.

PD: Now with the new patch is broken (temporarily), but I highly recommend to use a third party programm like GoMule. You can move/stash all items between characters and/or shared stash, and you can create a virtual infinite stash. It can’t modify or create items, just move them.
