All these new players whining about not knowing how to play the game. Can’t be bothered learning the game? Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
Summoner is easily one of the strongest classes in the game, you just have to not be bad.

In fairness, it took me a while to get really good with him.
When I did, I wiped the floor with him. Diablo never stood a chance.
Summon Necro is slow in progress - yes. Unplayable? Oh hell no.

Since we’re on the subject, the original Prima guide mentions that the Necro is not useless with a weapon, so I always give mine a simple mace and a severed head, just in case. It also helps if you want to back up your skeletons. Also, who are we kidding, it can get kind of boring just raising a bunch of minions and then standing there watching them.
Pick a class with higher APM requirements
You clearly don’t know how to play a summon necro properly…

if i get no corpse it’s useless
Try druid summoner u dont need corpses.Get some DEX use a bow or crossbow pump that heart of the wolverine use wolfs on the field and grizzly on bosses
- plays top 5 build
- can’t get past nightmare
- must be the games fault

Summoner is really fun to play… sometimes…
But when monsters die when they get stucked in a doorway or when you move too far, too quickly it’s really really really painfull.
Otherwise a good merc, and no frost damage is really funny
It shouldn’t be too much mana to revive them on demand anyway.
I am struggling with normal boss diablo. My pets die faster than I can revive them. But I guess, I need some farming to get stronger and some items that could boost my defense. And maybe, I should not have skilled hybrid pets scellettons, golems and spear, better only do one skill tree than two for talents
back in the days, it was just funny to go into a Hell PVP game, get them souls and Ogres and stomp everyone with 50minions +.
Merc with Faith, Iron golem with Pride. Holy jeez it was too op to be true. Stomping on Ubers like its nothing 
The Summoner was the first and only class for me to beat hell.
Yes, it was a pain in the a… to collect minions, but I had fun with that class.
Especially, when I learned the aging spell for Baal!
