Fine for sets and uniques to be super rare for spell/synergy based classes since you can clear Hell based on skill points and gear is mostly about survivability and clear speed. It is, however, not great for the many melee classes included in the game, which functioned fine before 1.10. Good blues and yellow armors simply don’t drop before the end of Nightmare. Good weapons (200+% ED with some other bonuses) are rarer on rares than many uniques and won’t even spawn until well into Hell. So I’d say the drops are a mess.
D2 guides and meta are all predicated on bots. Every guide is “so run Enigma armor and BOTD or Grief weapon and these exact set and unique items,” when in fact the drop rates for a lot of those items are less than 1:100,000 and don’t come up through regular play. I think the solution is not to increase drops for uniques and sets, but to make blues and yellows better, if not quite as good, so that people have less incentive to use bot items, and so more classes are viable and don’t hit walls where it becomes impossible to progress because a decent weapon hasn’t dropped in 5 acts.

That’s what I said. Can’t trade (without getting shady stuff) so might as well play offline.
A large part of DII’s success and ability for the massive imbalances between classes to get papered over is that a flood of bot items and hardcore MF players means lots of games were decentish free items get thrown out.
Your chances of finding an IK set as a barbarian are super low, particularly as you will struggle to even play in areas where it can drop on gear found from a normal playthrough without runs, or with magic find gear on, but your chances of having people drop spares to you well into a ladder aren’t bad.
In other words:
Bots make D2 as easy as D3 by showering you in high end items that you couldn’t get on your own.
Not attacking you, if that’s what you want, be my guest.
But I guess that’s also something many people dislike.
in the US forum i complained about a spcific hacker group with repositories websites and so on who are breaking blizzard games terms of service and - got locked there.
This is what blizzard is doing, silencing the messenger.
I’m kind of happy that bots are coming back they help speed up the process of bringing down the value of super expensive runes which makes them accessible to most players. And who can forget the fire enchant sorcs that give us way points in act one😂

what do you mean? can you explain please?
You would get extremely high level sorcs standing in act 1 ( Advertising their sites and services of course) adding fire damage to your melee weapons 20000 fire damage! It was extremely fun to level up with so much fire damage😉 You could also enter a command and the bot would give you all the way points for each act.
for real… that sounds somewhat funny and brings some live to the default game. its something different to the grinding and so on. As long as they dont touch my loot everything is fine. i dont care much about economy stuff. ^^
Because really: playing 3times (Norm NM HELL) through the game is great the first time, but not for the 5. character.
Yeah, i say it. i somewhat enjoyed the automatic bots - really lazy boring. if i dont like that i make my own games/runs. I remember following a public bot a whole night through about 100 runs. sometimes i was faster than him and he got completely confused “whaaat i really didnt get that item? whoaaa! -leaved-.”
What i dont like are people who are cheating with automatic picking stuff and so on.
To bring some new influence to the default game i really hope they add new content like the stuff from medianXL. The endless-spawning-boss is really funny to fight against.
The new content and appropriate changes could be implemented like the expansion; a toggle to activate everything new/different and fine. ← state of the art in game design for example in well known altest building-strategy-game with many DLC.
Sry for offtopic. back to bots.
But overall: its against TOS and prohibited and dangerous. its more an “accepting as is” than a good situation.
They are retired bots that already reach level 99 and they recycle them to Spam their websites and leveling up services. They simply stand in act one and wait for your commands. You can ask them for gold or waypoints or enchants. They will enchant you or your minions or your range weapons.
Pick it will be the blight of this game and it’s much worse than bots or any other issues because it attacks the core principles of this game. Unfortunately I don’t think this is something bnet 2.0 can detect efficiently. Especially with the addition of controllers with Turbo macro settings. That’s why there is an argument for private loot and how they implemente it will be the key to the success of this game.
i agree
and about the turbo/macros: i use them only for buying scrolls and potions faster - because the old fast-buy trick doesnt work anymore
- and dont affect other players. there are enough other downsides with controller …
I will give you all an easy solution. Play Single player! Blizzard enabled absolutely same features as for Online ladder. Now in Single you have: increased stash and shared stash for all SP chars, Uberdiablo clone spawn (you need to sell 1 soj to NPC), uber tristram working as well.
I know right?
That’s not a real solution, only a temporary alternative to a symptom of a bigger problem.
I always avoid trading when playing old bnet due to botters. It’s a shame they ruin the market, but that’s just a minor part of the game for me. Would rather eschew that and do it the hard way.
Yep. that is exactly when I quit, when duping destroyed all value.
The game is rolling dice wrapped around an ARPG !
With normal luck you will reach a level (eg level 38-40 and Nightmare) where you cannot proceed anymore because your gear has become ineffective. At this point you have two options: grind the lower levels like crazy hoping to drop a better weapon, or get given gear from other players or even from your other characters.
If you choose option B, regardless if the extra gear comes from your high level sorceress or you got given it, it does not matter if it was a bot that farmed it (excepting dupes which can be deleted by Blizzard).
In my experience the game expects you to trade and progress this way when you hit a brick wall.
Playing in Single Player mode can/will get you stuck and abandoning the character (not fun anymore).
That’s not true. Its completely different when you first do your specs deeds and get some gear for a potential other character or just trade with bots.
Bot= ultimate her, cheap.
Selffound= compromise gear hardly earned.
I’ve started with blizz sorc as everyone does, and hit level 80 and haven’t even completed act4 in hell. Just farming Andy and MEP, to today ( but finished Baal) and found so much good stuff it’s unbelievable. You can upgrade your stuff into runes, into bigger runes into good gear!
Found 3 gheeds today alone, which goes for sometimes good runes. Traded 2 for ist and ist into Amazon stuff.
Found 2 occys which goes well too.
If you farm to build up wealth then you’re dumb anyway. Farm items and play selffound characters. It’s the only way to have fun in the game. Playing for fake riches is retarded.
No it’s not, my sorc is completely self found and I never spend runes on her. Like never, not eben wearing one of the occys or shako I found. Just because I found this gear without it and trading is a big fun part for me. Having a Java so early is just nice to have and fun to play around. Also you are the Baal run hit with lightning DMG instead of cold
If I see a single bot, I will request a refund.
Bots are bad for the economy.
The game will become boring and pointless as before!
In the end of the day it’s all about trading and gathering items.
