Some one can say if D2R run with windows 8.1 ?

I just purchased D2R not noticing the windows 10 thing… I have windows 8.1 and its not working. What a fail, I mean even baldurs Gate 3 runs on windows 8.1 and the game is an A class title still in beta…
When I researched the game it originally said DirectX 11 was the minimum, not DirectX 12 which as far as I can tell is the only difference between 8.1 PRO 64-bit and win10. So why won’t it run. My Geforce experience and nvidea don’t balk as it running, but the game says that it can’t initialize the video graphics. I just got it for my birthday and I can’t play it. I’m very upset. Please advise. Beta and pre-release said nothing about win10 being a minimum, just directx 11. Now have I completely wasted my time and $?
