Barbarian passive skill

I am comparing Ruthless (does 40% increase damage to enemies below 30% HP) and Weapons Master (with Swords = 8% increased damage).

With Ruthless and with my SIMPLE calculation, assuming the % damage bonus is applied in the same way for both talents, you get an overall 9.375% increased damage.

With Weapons Master you get a flat 8% increased damage.

While Ruthless seems to be better overall, you got to reduce the target to < 30% HP before the bonus damage kicks in. Would it be overall better to go for Weapons Master?

Problem is if weapon master is additive then it’s not worth as much as Ruthless which is multiplicative.

Not on pc now, but you can check your damage with and without weapon master selected. If there is a change then it’s additive and not as good as ruthless because you already have several other additive damage boosters.

Even if both are multiplicative Ruthless could be better because of other factors.

I’d refer you to the Whirlwind Barbarian guide I linked for you just two days ago, which includes absolutely everything you could possibly want to know about the build, written by one of the most knowledgeable Barbarian players in the world…

Also, you’re most likely using the Bul-Kathos weapon set. They’re not swords, they’re mighty weapons, which means Weapons Master would be granting you 2 fury per hit, not 8% damage.

It took a cursory look at Free’s build. He states that some rolls (like on weapons) are mandatory so it could be a problem for a casual player to get the right items with the right stats… but I haven’t tried it.

Ahhh!!! Yes, you are right! With Weapons Master I get +Fury, I see no difference on the character sheet when I switch in and out of Weapons Master!

I have read through the guide, and I am experimenting as I go along. From the limited gear that I have what I can do, what works and what does not. The proof will be when I can waltz through a GR75, rather than dieing 10 times throughout and on the last boss
