Hi all!
I am relatively new to Diablo 3, but I decided to join the part with Season 26. I just got my Inna’s set for my Monk and I am currently slapping relatively hard in Torment XII rifts.
I would like to experiment with other classes and ideally collect more lvl70 class-specific items, but I have noticed that all items that drop appear to be monk-oriented, even magic and rare items tend to have +DEX modifiers on them more often than not. In just a few raids I collected 3 Ulianna’s items, but none for other classes.
Is there a way to change that or is that a common D3 feature? I play mostly D2 so it is very strange to me.
Thanks in advance!
Diablo III has what is known as “Smart Loot”.
What this means is that 85% of the loot that drops will be useable for the class you’re playing when the loot drops. So, if you’re on a Monk, this means you’ll get Monk-specific items and non-class-specific items with DEX as their main stat 85% of the time.
The other 15% of the loot is split evenly between the six classes that you’re not playing when the loot drops. This means you’ll get roughly 2.5% of your drops for each of the other classes.
However, if you want to get gear for another class, e.g. because you’ve started another hero, there are ways to do this more effectively than just hoping they drop whilst you’re on your Monk. For example…
- Farm rifts / greater rifts on your Monk to earn Blood Shards, then spend them at Kadala whilst on the other hero
- Whilst on the other hero, craft level 70 rare (yellow) items at the Blacksmith and use the Kanai’s Cube recipe “Upgrade rare to legendary”
- Whilst on the other hero, for non-class-specific items (e.g. some rings, some amulets, some weapons), use the Kanai’s Cube recipe “Reforge Legendary” and this will result in the legendary being recreated as if it had dropped whilst you were playing that class
- Whilst on the other hero, craft items at the Blacksmith, e.g. Captain Crimson gear
- Run public Rifts / GRs / Bounties and where a hero of the class that you want gear for (i.e. not Monk) is in the party, ask nicely if they’d drop class gear for your intended class
- Ask nicely in the in-game General Chat channel if someone of the class that you want gear for would run some rifts / GRs with you, and drop gear for that class

Hi man!
Many thanks for your reply! Yeah, that all makes sense. I am not sure I prefer that over D2’s fully random system, but I can see some sense in it.
Many thanks for your suggestions, I will certainly be trying them out!
