Monk LOD Wave of Light spinning animation

I’m playing a Monk WoL build in the current season - I have most of the items I need (apart from the amulet, rings and belt) not always the right rolls) for the build. I’ve not played this build before.

One thing I’ve noticed is that the Monk seems to ‘spin’ in place and not have the ability to attack every now and then and I’m not sure why. I’m fairly sure it’s not caused by any crowd control spells cast (there is no icon showing).

Your Monk is using Stone Gauntlets and their legendary power is…

Getting hit increases your armor by 50%, but reduces your movement speed by 15% and attack speed by 20%. This effect stacks up to 5 times.

This means…

Stacks Armour Movement Speed Attack Speed
1 Increased by 50% Reduced by 15% Reduced by 20%
2 Increased by 100% Reduced by 30% Reduced by 40%
3 Increased by 150% Reduced by 45% Reduced by 60%
4 Increased by 200% Reduced by 60% Reduced by 80%
5 Increased by 250% Reduced by 75% Reduced by 100%

Because the Stone Gauntlets provide both a benefit (increased armour) and a penalty (slowed movement and attack speed) the intention is that the player needs to utilise other items or abilities to remove the penalty but keep the benefit. For example…

  1. Equip or Cube the Ice Climber boots
  2. Use an Invigorating Gem at Rank 25 or higher
  3. Maintain 100% up-time on your class’s uber-ability, e.g. Wrath of the Berserker on a Barbarian, Akarat’s Champion on a Crusader, and so on.

Thanks for that - I do remember that the gloves did have a downside - I’m wondering if one of the items I’m missing mitigates the effects (but have yet to find how to do that). The effects are quite dramatic.

I did find a Zodiac ring which is now in the cube and I’m using a Tasker and Theo gloves and have found a Magefist (fire damage).

My post included a list of ways to mitigate the downsides…

None of the Monks on the leader board seem to use any of the suggestions.

I took a quick look at the Rank 1 Monk and I’d suggest it’s this…

Serenity
You are enveloped in a protective shield that absorbs all incoming damage for 3 seconds and grants immunity to all control impairing effects

Ascension
Increase the duration of Serenity to 4 seconds.

Are they keeping that up 100% of the time maybe?

Yes, I expect so. I’ve looked for the old ‘num lock trick’ - I’ve not used that for years.

I came to the forums looking for answers as I have exactly the same issue! I consistently get “stuck” as a result of the stone gauntlet debuff. HOWEVER, my issue goes further. This happens DESPITE me having my serenity AND my ephiphany up! It often happens (but it’s not always and I can’t determine a pattern for when it does) that I literally have just clicked both abilities and within a second thereof I am stuck and spinning. And I can confirm that there is NO debuff icon stating that I have even a single debuff stack up. Surely this can’t be expected behaviour? I’ve also died (taken one-shot kill damage) from upteen mobs whilst serenity is supposedly active. This is beyond frustrating now as I am struggling to move forward and am really starting to think that stone gauntlets are not worth the trouble if I’m going to keep dying and getting one-shot despite the supposed uber-toughness/armour etc…?

I’ve played every hero to high level in HC, quite simply stone gauntlets - salvage them. They are useless, they stop / slow you and the idea you need to change something else is nonsense. No matter what they promise in comparison to equipped, they’re not worth it. Never use them.

Meanwhile…

Also, if you take a look at the Season 27 HC solo Monk leaderboard for No 6-piece set, you’ll find a GR150 in 8 minutes 55 seconds done with this setup (including Stone Gauntlets).

They absolutely have a purpose, i.e. massive amounts of mitigation due to the armour increase, and the use of ORotZ in the build gives sufficient CDR to maintain 100% up-time on the ability that completely negates the attack / movement speed effect.

Rather late to the discussion but:

Cooldown reduction is vital with using stone gauntlets. If you can maximise CDR and are lucky with Obsidian ring of zodiac, then Epiphany could have 100% up time, and that being so, your movement and attack speeds are not affected, and the shielding values are triggered. (As was said prior)

However, Aquila cuirass provides a lot of damage mitigation without attack or movement speed down side effects
