I may be among the few, but I got this game because it seemed like fun, but some of the controls are very messed up and limited.
I don’t understand 2 things.
- Why can’t my move command be on right click? Why is it set on left click, period?
Yes I know I can change it in the mouse properties and switch the function, but having to do that every single time I play, just because the game doesn’t allow me to change it is pretty stupid…
And 2) why isn’t there a command to stop all actions and commands and make the hero stop in place? That’s also available in Starcraft.
It is very annoying that my hero always goes all the way to where I clicked and there is no keybind for it that I can set. A simple button “s” or “h” would do the trick…
After years of LoL, Dota2, HoN and Starcraft 2, these 2 things make Diablo 3 kind of unplayable.
There is a “force stand still” option that can be placed on a key you like. I have it on the key right next to the number “1” action key and use my little finger on it, and I have force move on the space bar which can be controlled by the thumb - some put force move on the scroll wheel.
I tried using “force stand still” and it did nothing, even if I pressed it my hero still went all the way… Moving to mouse cursor position by pressing space bar? what? That is messed up… These 2 things I mentioned are very simple and available in Starcraft, that is why I don’t understand why there isn’t an option. It’s OK if it is not the default, but why isn’t there an option available at all?
Okay I didn’t explain it correctly. The force stand still is for not moving when you’re attacking. The only way to stop a movement is to place the cursor in another place. This goes whether you move by clicking or by using force move and only hover the cursor to where you wanna go. It takes some time getting used to but it doesn’t make Diablo a bad game. You just gotta get used to how it works.

Try this and see if it helps you. In the key bindings there is a thing called force move. I set it for my middle mouse button (Mouse3 is what the game calls it). I 've seen some people setting it to wheel up and down but it feels so awkward for me to scroll up and down all the time to move, plus it’s exhausting for my fingers, so i set it to just the middle button. It may still take a couple of plays to get used to it, since you are used to moving with the left mouse button but now it’s just natural for me. Anyway, for every character that i have, i use this key to move freely around the map even if you click a monster you can walk, this doesn’t force you to attack. I also use a “universal” pattern for all my characters. I have the right click for my main attack spell, 1 for mobility skills (like vault, charge, bloodrush, steed charge), 2 and 3 for other utilities and 4 is for my biggest buff usually ( like wrath of the berserker, akkarat’s champion, vengeance), etc…My left click is usually some other utility skill that i use it with the force stand still (left shift for me). So let’s say for example that i play demon hunter, my left mouse is the wolf companion and by pressing LShift + left mouse click it activates this skill.
