Pylons are missing

today I opened and left 5 greater rift 118. In each of them I look around for pylons till 5 or 6 floor and did not see any pylons. Am I too unlucky or did they remove pylons after certain gr level?

They did not remove pylons that’s for sure. In order to manipulate pylons you have to memorize the spots that they appear but most importantly you have to progress by killing monsters. The more you kill the higher the chance of a pylon spawning. If you walk in straight lines without killing anything then the chance is really low, but not zero. There are also occasions that there is a pylon 3 meters from the entrance of the first floor but that is also rare. You can also intentionally or inadvertently block a pylon from spawning if you hapen to explore an area or a corner that usually generate pylons before killing monsters.

thank you for quick answer and good information. I did not know that spawn of pylons are related to killing monsters.

I think there is a formula that calculates the chance. I know that there is somewhere out there when you google it or watch a youtube video it explains it more thoroughly than my response. You are very welcome.

  1. When you enter, there is a 1% chance of a pylon spawning in the vicinity of the entrance.
  2. For every 1% progress gained (which comes from killing mobs) the chance of a pylon spawning at the next possible location increases by 3%.
  3. After a pylon has been spawned (whether you take it or not) your chance of the next one resets back to 1%, increasing by mob kills.
  4. Pylons can only spawn in certain map locations, e.g. in corridor maps, there might only be room for one in a wider section.
  5. If you uncover a spawn location before you have sufficient progress, that location can no longer contain a pylon. This is especially relevant if you’re gathering large numbers of mobs together, and running through an entire area, revealing areas that could have had pylons in them, if you’d had enough progress. This is known as de-spawning because you’re actively preventing pylons being in locations that could have held one, if you’d had enough progress.

Wudijo explaining it in detail…

Thank you too meteorblade

I just ran a 128 with dense mobs, zero pylons (i looked in all corners) until 89% progression then a totally irrelevant speed pylon appeared. Darn this game

It’s my experience that I never get a pylon once the blue progress bar starts to show numbers, like 95% and up, even if I haven’t spawned all four pylons that you usually get. Pylons also rarely spawn when I get up around 90% and still haven’t spawned all of them.
