Hi, I collected all the ingredients and I crafted a Staff of Herding then according
to the instructions I was using which I found on a website it says you are
supposed to take the staff to The Old Ruins way point and go to The Old
Tristram Road follow it and you are supposed to see the Cow King appear
but I have been to The Old Tristram Road a dozen times and there is no
Cow King appearing what am I doing wrong, also am I supposed to keep
the staff in my inventory or must I wear it in my gear? Thanks in advance.
The staff of herding doesn’t need to be equipped, it just needs to be in your hero’s inventory.
Here’s a screenshot showing the Old Tristram waypoint, and where the Cow King is…
The Cow King will appear if you have the Staff of Herding in your Inventory, talk to him…
After the dialog completes, the portal to Whimsyshire will be available…
Hi:
Don’t know what you’re doing wrong… put the Staff of Herding in your inventory, follow the Old Tristram Road and stand near the cow skeleton and the dead Tristram militia as in this screenshot:
If you have the Staff of Herding in your inventory, magic will occur:
Good luck.
About thirty seconds too slow, Boubou.
Oh rite thank you guys, by looking at the screenshots that you guys posted
here I was able to find my way, I was going the wrong way before. But
now that I have found the entrance I am supposed to search for Sir William
but I could not find him so I assume that he does not have a 100% spawn
chance so I will just restart a few times, thanks again.
Oh, my. Not even close. Some people do literally hundreds of runs through Whimsyshire before finding the rare mob that drops the portrait frame.
Hi:
You may have to restart more than “a few times”
This is a screenshot of Sir William… I’m sure you’ve seen many of these on the internet:
When you kill him, he will drop the rainbow portrait… the portrait is a white item, not a legendary item, so there is no beam of light and it doesn’t show up on the minimap :
You will need to pick it up; in your inventory, the portrait looks like this:
and you’ll need to right-click it to add it to your collection of portraits… where you can select it and equip it.
Good luck in your search !
My French is a little rusty. Doesn’t “Portrait Monde Imaginaire” mean “Imaginary World Portrait”, i.e. there’s no reference to rainbows in the French name of the dropped item?
Très bien.
Does this portrait frame stays all the time? Or you just have to farm it, when new season starts?
I don’t have the Rainbow portrait but other cosmetics, pets, wings etc. that are earned in season, non season or previous seasons are available universally. So if you get it in season now you can also use it in non season immediately.
If you get it in hardcore I don’t know if it’s available in softcore and vice versa. Probably not. (Others will tell).
The portrait frame is a region unlock, i.e. regardless of which of the four modes you find it in (softcore seasonal, hardcore seasonal, softcore non-seasonal, hardcore non-seasonal) it is available to all your heroes, in any of the modes, in that region. In other words, as soon as you find it on EU servers, any EU hero you have or make in the future has access to it.
It’s important to point out that it’s not an account-wide unlock, i.e. finding it on EU does not unlock access to it on US and Asia. You’d need to find it in each region you want to use it.
If you want more information about any of the cosmetics in the game, there’s an excellent thread on the US forums from MissCheetah, listing them all, whether they’re still available (some were time-limited, or due to purchases no longer available) and, if so, how to obtain them…
If you find that useful, throw her a like and say thanks.
Thank you for sharing this usefull information in soo much details. Appriaciate it.
