It leads to the question: Surely there’s more that can be done with gold? Such as spending it on ashes, blood shards, mats, certain challenges, (that the devs could think up), and so on? It accumulates too rapidly
Empowering GRs is a great way to spend gold. Especially if you’re running 1% chances.
I wish i could agree. What’s the benefit of empowering a rift when you can just run another at the same level anyway?

Though I agree. A few times I succeeded on 1% (not empowered) and FAILED 4 times on 90%.
Both are rare events though often it was possible to increase gems 4 times successfully on 60-60-60-30
I used to empower rifts before the whisper of atonement, as it was convenient upgrading a gem from 0 to 140+ but whispers kind of dispensed that
If gold is not an issue then five chances at 60% is better than four. This goes all the way down to 1%. The 1% chance to get a gem to 150 goes from a GR 143 to a GR 135 or 136, if I remember correctly.
