Urzeal, Malthiel and any other boss with a pause in the middle of the fight

I just died in hardcore. To be expected. It wouldnt be so bad if I didnt already list it as one of the ways I was going to lose my character. 1) Malthiel or Urzael… 2) A random DC and 3) Something hitting me before I could teleport.
3. Easy enough. Clear everything in a big radius. Kill anything that may wander in. (Refresh band of might first)
2. Unavoidable, hope I completely DC before I lose my character.

  1. Urzael and Malthiel both have a stop in the middle of the fight. There is about a 1 second delay between the RP and gaining control of my character at which point Either boss has already charged and hurt and or killed my Barby.

SUGGESTION: GET RID OF THE RP FOR HC CHARACTERS OR LEAVE THEM OUT OF THE FIGHTS COMPLETELY OUTSIDE OF STORY MODE. or I dunno, a little more of a pauce so certain classes can get the defences back up. Im pretty sure this has been brought up. Could ya fix it please? Thanks!

Back in the days Urzael and Malthael were formidable opponents and I have died to them both (especially Malthael) several times on softcore - but never the way you describe. After the pause there is always a window where you can escape (unless you are hit by some kind of server lag?).
You weren’t using a gem like Moratorium?

What about those bloaty dudes that swell up and explode in your face? When you get them all in a tight bunch they all explode together, unleashing instant death sometimes.

oh, incidentally I found out last week that they are the only enemies that actually cause damage to other enemies when they explode

Diablo is another one that pauses although Maltael is the most death-casting. Watch out for the grey clouds that he throws

You mean the Grotesques? Yeah they do lots of damage, but i wouldn’t consider them the biggest threat. They are slow, don’t do that much damage outside of explosion and the explosion is easily predicted and avoided if you see the circle on the ground. The die easily too. But sometimes i can see them becoming problematic if you are stuck, immobilized, trapped by wallers or something like that. That’s why on hardcore you never leave town without the cheat death passive. They also tend to be in large numbers, when there is one there are usually more, and even 1/3 of a floor maybe full of them, so in floors with tight spaces, corridors, small rooms, etc., you might want to be mindful of your surroundings and how easily you can step back from the explosions.

As for Malthael, he can easily kill squishy builds and many characters with low paragons. If i notice lags, latency, pc slowing down or anything that affects the performance of the game, i just won’t fight him. Again, cheat death or being overall extra tanky is helpful here. Besides Malthael, i found out from my experience that Belial can pose a threat sometimes when he slams the ground and Uzrael is of the same logic. Those fire explosions can definitely kill you but you can easily avoid them.

Yes, those grotesques that sometimes come in waller elites, and when they have the molten affix, thats a double whammy of explosions, as you get them exploding and the molten explosion, so thats double the fun.

It depends on builds for Maltael, even at high paragon points in t16 - If for eg you are running Demon hunter with a goldwrap, and the boon of hoarder, then thats of no advantage , especially in phase 2 of the takedown, as it is difficult to generate the necessary stacks, up to 20 with the strafe/hungering arrow build. Malthael throws that grey cloud immediately in phase 2 - where there’s no advantage with defence from gold collection, and no time to build defence and attack stacks.

It’s more straightforward with builds that are tanky at default, but some builds have to generate all that attack/defence criteria as they go along…

Lol, playing Hardcore is just plain stupid! I can’t count how many times I died due to Lag in regular play. I have not, and never will play Hardcore because of the unexpected lag, or other stupid technical issues that can cause your character to die.
