What is the reason for Seasons? I finally was very successful with a Demon Hunter only to have the shards and all extra perks deleted after the Season is completed.
It now takes my Hunter 4 more minutes to clear the same level greater rift.
No more seasons for me. No point

I guess you are new to the game? (not meant in a condescending way). Some of us have played Diablo 3 since 2012 and we have gotten used to seasons (not that they were there from the start of course) lasting anywhere from three to six months.
Because D3 is now in maintenance mode seasons will now cycle between a limited number of previous themes in 3 months periods.
Some enjoy the fresh start. Some don’t.

Season 30 will repeat itself in a couple of years and just as any other season, when it ends, you transfer everything (paragons, gear, characters) except for specific seasonal items to your non-seasonal mode. It wasn’t the first time that soul shards were used. Season 25 had the exact same theme (first time it was used) and after Season 29 the devs said that seasonal themes will repeat themselves. Before the Altar, this was the most powerful seasonal theme we’ve seen, so expect some other seasons in the future to be underwhelming compared to this. Still it’s better to have a seasonal theme than nothing. You would need a crazy amount of paragons on your non-seasonal character to reach the same power that some seasons give you very early on just by adding a new mechanic.
PS. Season 31 (again, an older theme coming from S20) is nowhere near S30 in terms of power, appart from necromancers who benefit tremendously from the 3 cubed weapons. Then when it ends, the cube theme will disappear and Season 32 will recycle another older theme.

Seasons are usually much easier to play than nonseasons at this point in game.
Personally i play seasons for that reason only.
2x more primal drops, 2x more legendary items from urshi, and much more damage thanks to altar and seasonal themes = much more exp and items in the end.
But the main point is prolonging the game that has only grind and no content.
