Barbarian cant wield a Shield?

Hello,

Quick question…

In every Diablo game iv’e played Barbarian has been able to equip a shield. Did they loose this ability in D4? I did not find a single shield that I could equip on the beta. Is this something that will be available later in the game? I think its important to the class identity to be able to wield a shield as a barbarian.

Give barbarians shields again please.

Warriors, paladins and Crusaders use shields. Barbarian is only a tank if none of those are there (like now). They certainly don’t feel like tanks in D4 and never used shields, they are about as much use as a chocolate teapot. When they are running around with weapons they look like they are pooping their panties hehehe. In D3 they whirlwind everywhere with tornados behind them and totally rock the show.

I don’t think they will be able to do it. It is all part of this idea about class specific items. If we want a melee class that uses shields, we will have to wait.

I was hoping for a defensive playstyle with a shield. But there is no such thing with the barbarian. That is, it definitely lacks a class that delivers a good fighting style (not magical nature) with a shield and one-handed weapon. Proccs after block for cool attacks etc. and nice animations. Women in heavy armor with shield and sword always look good. A believable fighting style that also works defensively not too overly fast but spreads fat shield blows, block properly, then get a procc where you do various counter attacks and a chain of special attacks would be fine with me.

The combat can also have a magic punch in it here and there that isn’t too colorful, but rather smooth little effects around the weapon/hit points.
Just no magical character that comes up totally colorful with big effects, that would devalue the class.

If a Valkyrie should come, that would appeal to me more than a Paladin.

But a character is missing that not only holds a shield, but also fights with it and that actively and already staged. The less exaggerated you make it, the better it should work.

Let’s see what Blizz will manage. I’m actually convinced that the next and first additional class will be some kind of tank wielding shield and one-handed weapon. A little magic will probably be there, but I hope Blizz doesn’t make it a class for 6-year-old kids who enjoy marshmellow weapons and when it’s always New Year’s Eve around the character.

A credible armored somewhat slowed character, which also acts after tank and offers a little bit of Procc effects, blocking, parrying and counter attacks delivers…

With the Valkyrie, the question would be whether to give her more holy magic or add lightning power…

somehow someone forgot to implement the knight class. the very first character appearing in diablo. and the main protagonist since forever.

Look how the original warriors armour actually looks better than all 3 other Diablo games. His weapon actually has a sheath.

Though the wand on my sorc in D4 looks actually awesome.

Yeah. i want this. this is perfection.

I mean enhance the details and improve for current graphics but that is how it’s done. Not always WoW style works. A few of my barb items, helmets especially look too big and WoW style. As for my sorc’s first vine helmet just… OMFG!

Yes. Sheaths and mounts/straps for weaponry is a much needed detail with the amazing work they have carried out on the models. Imagine pouring so much love and attention into making these models and then making the weapons bloody float on the model’s back or be superglued into their hip… such a shame.

This kind of nonsense was carried over from Diablo Immoral. That game has fixed weapon types for every class, meaning as a Barbarian you can only carry a main-hand and off-hand weapon forcing you into specific styles which depend on the skills you’re using.

And yes, it’s awful design.

i do find it wierd that only necromancer can use shield… i mean out of all the classes its one of the caster archtypes that con use a shield??? seems bonkers to me…

imo stuff like small shields/shortswords/daggers should be wieldable by all classes…
give the necros shrunken heads like in D2 or something like that… that would make more sense then this…
