Betafeedback: itemization - wrong direction!

Hi guys,

im an old Diablo Fan and played 2 AND 3 multiple thousands of hours.

My Feedback: The Graphics are sick! Music and Atmosphere are on point and very similiar compared to d2, what i rly love.

BUT the neckbraker for D4 and its „builddiversity“ is the current itemization of D4.

So in D3 there were no skilltrees or other early customization options. So they added legendarys and sets with BIG dmg% multipliers to certain skills. This ended in the most broing itemization system of all arpg’s. In order to play a skill you like, the game forces you to use a set combined with some other legendary effects on the itemslots which are not used by the class sets + aughilds or guardians. There is just no room for alternative options… USE THEM or do no dmg OR the build is not working.

In d4 we have a skilltree and other options for example the arsenal system and a NEW paragon system… Sooooooooo please explain me why they go in the same itemization direction like d3 !!! for example there are again items like 240% dmg to whirlwind while channeling or this stupid 80% flact crit thing… thats jast stupid af… WHY THE ****?
The result of this is the same ****** broing itemization like d3 what most people hate about d3. So please just delete dmg% multipliers and focus on +skills or other systems… there are soooo many viable systems and options that other rpg’s are using…
D2 itemization is godlvl compared to d3/d4… and im not sayin this cuz i am an d2 only fanboi… it is what it is… just facts… If these Multipliers will stay in the game… the Endgame and its BUILDDIVERSITY is gone for sure!!! Everybody who plays WW will use the same itemeffects… everybody who plays hydra will use the same effects… there will be one exact metabuild (skills and items) for each spell… so thats just boring… so please fix this. just delete dmg multipliers and go for something else and everything is fine and d4 will be a smasher

Game is finished, done deal, all that’s left is minor fixes and stuff like that.

You had the audacity to say „builddiversity“ ,when all you experienced was beta testing up to level 25,made not for you to enjoy the game, but to stress out servers to the max.You literally haven’t seen nothing yet,and based on (LIMITED) 5-10 hours of gameplay you spent in D4 ,you concluded game is not good and core system (of every looter game) has to be scraped down?

Honestly, how are you not ashamed of yourself?

I am 100% sure you actually do not mean what you said, because that would mean they have to postpone release for a year or so ( and lose millions of dollars in process)

Legendary items you had opportunity to play with are not even endgame quality items.Endgame items are VERY different to items we saw.

If people actually paid attention to loading screen tips, everything would’ve become crystal clear, and topics like this where people inadvertently ask for a D4 to be delayed for years , would not exist.

He has a valid point. There is no build diversity. If I want to build a Druid that is focused on companions I could do so in D2 but that’s not the case in D4 unless I find legendary affixes that will enhance those companions. For example, the on affix that turns your wolves into werewolves. That’s an item that may or may not fall come launch.

These percentage-based damaged modifiers feel like it’s the cheap route. In most cases, you would equip said item because it’s better than your previous item damage-wise.

I’m guessing that’s what he meant by build diversity. It’s lacking in D4.

We should be thankful Blizzard hasnt gone with the complex route other games did.

I spent 90 hours in another game,i was stuck with level 13 lege weapon (only lege item i got) because i couldn’t get better one to drop ,rare or lege. In that game in particular, some people played through multiple seasons without realizing some crafting systems ,and a lot of people won’t go nowhere that game because it is too complex and not newb friendly.

Blizzard already said better tier than lege will be build defining items, not lege items we got to play with during beta.

Blizzard games were always supposed to be for everybody, not just min-maxer mindset players.

No one wants to play for a year/s without getting char equipped with proper items and proper build. Blizzard games are made for majority of people, not minority.

Diablo 2 might’ve been different, but Diablo franchise also evolved, like it was supposed to.

Its 2023 not 2000 anymore and people should really get in on with the times, because there are plenty of games with this or that system.

Blizzard chose different route -their route ,with the intentions of people having fun, compared to what other games have to offer. Such as : spending more time on 10 different sites, looking for a proper build or combinations of crafting materials you need to craft one item, rather than playing their game.

Diablo 4,simple yet beautiful game to be played for many many years. I spent 7000 hours playing D3 and farming GRs only. D4 with its release will have more systems than D3 ever got in 10 years.

D4 having more systems than D3 is basically a lie. You got less basic skill variation, as i have compared many times now due to the inherent lack of the rune system. The Paragon stuff is basically the same as old Paragon with the addition of very few legendary nodes later on.
Since any items you will get, even the ones we haven’t seen yet, will build on the skills we have seen in beta already, variation is pretty much dead and it will quickly turn into the same old big damage copy paste builds that we know from D3.

Actually, eventually every game becomes copy paste of the most powerful builds.

POE has a tree of 1325 skills, yet most of those are just repetition of the same. Adds 12 spell damage 50x… and POE endgame in theory is great (countless builds etc) but in reality, there are only few viable builds.

Sure, everyone can make their own build, and play whatever sounds fun,but u wont be able to do shi* in the endgame, unless you copy/paste build from top players. That’s why there are guides and that’s why countless sites have guides on how to finish the endgame in certain games.

Source on that please, link if possible.

Otherwise its nothing but a speculation from someone who’s very, very salty and probably fanboy of another game which cant even come close to D4 because D4 is already light years ahead of most arpg games and its not even out yet. That’s self explanatory.

The fewer skills you have to start with, though, the less viable builds can emerge from that. So from a new player’s perspective, who doesn’t care about min-max builds, the viable skills you can take in D4’s skill tree are very limited. As an example, the sorc can’t build ice, arcane, or a lightning hydra like it was possible in D3. So if you want to build a full ice sorc or a full lightning sorc (arcane isn’t even in the tree lol), taking hydra is not an option. Obviously, with how OP Hydra was in the beta, you could take it anyway, but everything in the skill tree and in the Paragon system seems to be made for you to specialize in something so having like 6 or 7 skills per damage type in the whole tree is a little meh.
